They don’t. That’s why the word “might” is in the headline.

The simple math is that if you vote third party, it always helps the remaining candidate you like the least. This is because it reduces the number of votes needed to win.

When there is a non visible feature like this, there should be a visible way as well, even if it is less convenient. Maybe add a “change account” button to the profile page.

If I send an email to support@microsoft.com, it should be copied to support@gmail.com because it is the same thing, right?

Lemmy isn’t Reddit. It has similar capabilities, but it is fundamentally different. Think email or web hosting, not one stop shop.

The biggest lesson they learned from the Trump administration is that if you don’t act ashamed, you must not have done anything wrong. This has opened the floodgates on blatantly unethical and/or illegal behavior.

Also, the expense of a car can decimate their income. I don’t know how some people made ends meet when gas prices spiked during the pandemic.

Go read about the red scare(s). Is it that hard to imagine a politician with a rabid following accusing some group of people of being “disloyal” and starting a witch hunt to destroy the reputations and careers of the people who fall under that umbrella? It is truly scary to think what McCarthy could have accomplished if he could have subpoenaed Google’s data.

A lot of people ran into signup and login issues over the last few weeks and just bailed.

Be aware that most of what you see as happiness and comfort is actually just performative - they see that everyone around them is “happy” and their minister tells them if they follow the rules they will be happy. So they don’t want anyone to know how imperfect their lives are, so they pretend they are happy, and say all the right words and jump through all the right hoops.

Then you dig deeper and find that all their kids had kids out of wedlock, one is being abused by their spouse and is cheating on them, one disavowed any responsibility for their second kid they had with a second person who they weren’t married to…

You get the idea.

It isn’t all a front. The truth is that some religious communities do provide community to people who otherwise would be alone. But they are just groups of people with a shared hobby, not some kind of magic.

According to the article, the reason the repair was expensive was structural and had nothing to do with it being an EV.

That being said, I ran over a rock with a 1 year old EV and totaled it because it put a 4” crack in the battery pack and cracked the high voltage power harness. (Insurance covered it…that’s what car insurance is for folks)

That's not true - I'm seeing 6 different weather sources in Carrot, and while they probably share raw data, they use different models. Dark Sky (which apple bought and re-branded) wasn't just an app, it was its own hyper local (and accurate) weather model. Apple broke it.

Here's the thing: Apple is reporting a 30% possibility of rain in an area where no other weather model projects anything over 0%. It sent my kid's school into a frenzy because they were having an outdoor graduation and there was literally no chance that rain was going to fall. None.

Not only is Discord a bad replacement for Reddit, it is another monolithic platform struggling to find a business model. The enshitification of Discord is real, and is going to get worse.

That's the beauty of Lemmy - there's 20 other world news communities, and most of them have different mods!

Looks like there is one user who is the mod for a huge number of reddit knock-off communities on lemmy.world, and bans people for anything they deem to be islamophobic (in any way negative to Islam, Iran, etc). It will be interesting to see if the admins will take action.
