Under Trump's policies for example, a transgender woman could be placed in a detention facility with male detainees.

That obviously puts trans asylum seekers at risk of violence.

No idea, I'm not as read up on that. It would shock me if it was significantly different just because risk of death from complications is a hard biological line the younger you get, pre-modern medicine.

In Western Europe at least back to the early medieval period it was common for anyone who wasn’t nobility to have their first child around 22. The younger you are the more likely you’re going to have serious (fatal, back then) complications. It was the nobility that was marrying off barely pubescent kids.

Yeah, I keep seeing people posting about how they were permabanned from reddit like I'm supposed to think that's normal or sympathize with them..? I don't automatically block them but man is the toxicity making me want to start doing it.

Nonprofit news groups and reputable independent journalists are the answer to that, and they’re already out there.

They’re news companies, they are literally the media. They can get the message out if they want to. You don’t actually have to make their excuses for them for free, they pay people to do that.

Oh shit yeah, I assumed that was a given because I forgot other countries have cops that actually help people sometimes. ESPECIALLY stay away from any cop with visible tats because there’s a non zero chance they’re in a literal gang.

The Smokies are beautiful, I’m sure you’ll both have a good time. Chattanooga is worth visiting if you have the time, it’s a good mix of college town and rural Appalachian beauty.

Just be aware of your surroundings and whether or not anyone is giving you the stink eye or staring you down, and assume any dude giving you shit has a gun (ie, don’t escalate and just leave). I don’t say that to scare you, carrying guns is just very normal in large swathes of the south, so tailor your threat response accordingly. The majority of people are not gonna be a problem, especially in urban areas. But anyone telling you it never happens is living in denial.

I was mocking the company that published the article for not titling the headline to reflect what it is (a Nazi salute), I agree it’s not a big mystery what he did or why.

This is why orgs like ProPublica, Assigned Media, etc are such a gift.

Gotta be honest, I’m feeling real “then perish” about it when this is literally the function of the fourth estate and these news companies are probably one of the best poised, financially and legally, to actually do something other than bend the knee.

It takes them until the third edit: miscount, fourth paragraph to even connect it to Nazi Germany. “Straight arm salute” and “Roman salute” and not a single use of the term “Nazi salute”, is this a fucking joke?
