  • Thank you for differentiating.

The original "skin head" movement was mostly factory workers in Britain who cut their hair short (not necessarily shaved bald) for safety around equipment, and some of the most popular music among the group was stuff by "rude boys" Jamaican primarily I believe.

It was working class solidarity with no intentions of racism.

The neo Nazi groups coopted the term, and delved into punk music to find disenfranchised people who would buy into their rhetoric.

There are also other skin head groups that exist today - SHARP for example, standing for SkinHeads Against Racial Prejudice.

Espouse hateful rhetoric around these guys and you're liable to wind up on the wrong side of a brick to the head.

Why do I know all this? I have a penchant for research, and in the past few years I've been shaving my head because I decided to own my thinning hairline instead of have some ridiculous comb over type shit and hide it.

I have had an encounter with a racist white dude at a 711, and he's ranting at the cashier and looks to me and said "Right brother?!". No, it was absurdly horrible (misguided) and I threatened to call the cops if he didn't leave the store and hopefully the neighborhood. He left when he realized he didn't have any support.

  • I had an issue switching away from Pop!, and it may have been a one off, but when I tried to install a different distro, and it wound up screwing up my boot partition to the point the easiest thing was just to run a live distro, pop open parted, and wipe from there before I could install a different distro.

Mostly mentioning it because it was annoying to figure out and remedy - the remedy was annoying because I only had one flash drive so I had to wipe what I wanted to install, and just wasting time regarding that.

  • I wore vans up until my mid late 30s, but even with a desk job my feet killed after a day.

So now I have running shoes with more support and its helped. I also have a pair of combat boots, but they're more difficult to get on when I'm half asleep and trying to get to work.

So yeah, you might just have enough youth left to get by with vans lol.

  • I came to, apparently, agree with you. My exact thought.

This is clearly a trick to get into power, and we all know Republicans love power before anything else. Morals, the children, the budget, actual constitutionally protected rights, etc.

  • Its not that introverts don't want to, per se, we just aren't prepared at the moment to deal with others.

I take calls all day, offer IT support to entitled doctors. Sometimes I don't even want to talk to my wife after work.

It isn't her, it isn't anyone else having a problem, its just... I do NOT have the energy to mentally deal with people.

So much consideration, and empathy, and shit I just don't possess in great deals. I spend most of that shit at work.

Why is an introvert in a help desk position? Cause I'm fucking stuck here. I lost a GOOD job in the pandemic and I'm trying to survive.

At least I've upgraded my back up job source from retail to help desk. It pays better, has benefits, etc. I can always do it, I just fucking hate it.

  • My mother, as she grows older, is thinking about her passing and planning for it. Nothings wrong, she's just a planner.

She is looking into donating her corpse to science.

Med students need cadavers to practice on, grisly, but better than being a human guinea pig for some Doc's first attempt at surgical intervention.

Or, there was a story that made rounds about a guys mother whose body was used in testing explosives by the military. If I get a choice I want that option, since apparently funeral pyres are illegal these days.

  • When in worked in Yellowstone, it was a culture shock for two reasons

One, people just drink hot water, like tea temps but no tea - thus apparently is an asian (sorry for lack of specifics) and is used along with other eastern medicine practices

Two, if you plug in more than six small appliances (electtric kettle, hair dryer, etc) it will trip the breakers for that floor of the mammoth hot springs hotel.

Less shocking was the English couple who mistranslated directions to their room. The "first floor" would be the second floor for an American, they apparently starting counting at zero, which us great for arrays, not so good for describing a floor as 0 or in English, ground floor.

  • Ah, the animal computer books of my childhood, lol.

My parents (both in tech fields) had a library of these before they split up.

Somehow I wound up in IT as a career, no one saw that coming, I assure you /s

  • Most of my actual thoughts in the shower revolve around destroying whatever made me leave the house, thus necessitating a shower on THEIR schedule.

I like showers, and love a hot bath.... I don't love water prices here locally.

  • John 8:7 ESV / 34 helpful votes And as they continued to ask him, he stood up and said to them, “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.”

Fucking hypocritical politicians, same the world over.

Edit: I'm not religious overall, but I love throwing scripture in the face of these assholes.

  • If you want to do them a solid, say more than just MA. List a suburb or something they're in.

Unless this is some Mass. famous place that I am unaware of because I haven't gotten to Mass. yet in my travels.

Home is Texas, as sad as that is, and I'm aware of places that are great.... but over 6 hours away. So a smaller state may have people traveling an hour to get there.

I dunno, I'm against massive corporations, and try to shout out local places whenever I can. I have a decent job now, but I've worked mom and pop shit that is dying to give their employees a raise (I saw the books) but they needed more customers.

  • In my case, and this the US, I had friends who smoked.

I was curious, bummed one, and once I got past the coughing I really enjoyed the effects, that said by the time you no longer get the "high" (for lack of a better word) you're addicted.

Fast forward 20 years and I'm still trying to quit.

Quit for 5 years cold turkey, but... Shit went down in almost every facet of my life, and I went back.

But I'm down to about a pack a week.

One in the morning, one on the road to work, and one or two during my shift if time allows.

Just need to kick it for good.

    Edit: To correct typos

  • I'll agree with that statement.

Its good background noise, you don't have to follow too many subtle nuances or anything.

The formulaic nature actually helps with this, just catch the quips and mcguyver stuff and you've gotten 90% of the shows value.
