  • Pretty interesting stuff. About 100 whales per year are hunted, but 2023 had over double the average since whale hunting resumed in 2006.

There was a 4 year hiatus until COVID hit, then tourism slumped and the hunters resumed. Now that tourism is up, hunters are being shunned again. Its roughly 150 people that would need new work, and could easily transition to whale tourism (lawl).

The Icelandic whalers say its only a small percentage of the estimated 30,000 whales that pass through, so its nbd.

These hunters account for roughly 3% of all whales hunted worldwide, raking in about $15m a year.

  • Heres a fun tidbit, some fascist dude who genocided people said that blonde hair and blue eyes was the best.

Turns out only 2% of people are blonde, but I damn sure see more than 1 in 50, especially in movies/media. Kinda weird that Hollywood loves the same thing Hitler did, eh?

  • Incorrect. This will better train LLMs since they can detect distinct speakers/sounds more easily and thus applying the proper metadata tags and profile information at a more accurate clip.

All so they can deliver more ads!

  • Physical media can have certain bonuses that digital content cant/wont. Album art, bonus features, easter eggs, etc, but also the analog sound of vinyl.

The main thing I see these days though, is that the content cant be edited, censored, or modified in any way. Locally owned digital content also benefits from this.

  • Dow chemical is located in Lake Jackson, TX and probably out-pollutes all the passenger cars in TX

Not to mention the ship channel, oil refineries, coal burning, petrochemical plants, and so many other high pollution industries. But sure, blame the citizens.

Also, if you want citizens to use their cars less, invest more in public transit (TX has none)
