  • College is so expensive because the government does NOT offer lots of funding to public universities.

And the help the government provides in the form of loans is subpar. When I was going through college a few years ago, the interest rate on the loans that were offered to me by the government was higher than my parents credit card interest rates.

Our taxes should be used to pay for the education of future generations. Demanding the next generation improve society while making it as hard as possible for them is completely idiotic at best.

  • There are already laptops with docking stations that take 2 USB-C connectors. Annoyingly, the docking stations come with a Franken-connector of 2 USB-C plugs in one solid plastic housing so you can only use the dock with a specific laptop.

  • It looks like you can still buy Römertopf stuff online, so I suspect they're still in business. At the end of the day they're ceramic, they will be broken so there will always be some demand for them.

But your point stands. There is a serious danger for a company to make a product that lasts forever so that they'll never get repeat business.

I think a company could theoretically get around this problem by growing slowly (or not at all). That way, they can keep making some money to keep the tooling and the knowledge around go keep manufacturing going at a low level. They can produce replacement parts and replacement products and still keep the business afloat. Nothing is indestructible. There's still a bustling cast iron skillet market, after all.

Of course, the problem with that is infinite growth is what fat cats want, not slow sustainable growth.

But what do I know? I'm a moron on the internet.

  • My brother-in-law gave me some of his old golf pants that he didn't wear anymore. They're amazing. Very comfy, but stylish enough that many people think you're wearing slacks. And they keep me cool since I hate wearing shorts.

  • I was hoping you'd say, "Those! Only different ones!"

And then I'd say, "Just these are plenty for now!"

The Bionicle: The Mask of Light movie is endlessly quotable. My brother was really into Bionicle as a kid, so he had (and still has) tons of sets. He watched the movies on repeat. At the time I hated them, but nostalgia is a powerful drug.

More fun quotes include: "The Toa squabble like Guckobirds over a berry" "Well today is for quick-learning!" "...steam. Hot air, as they say!" "How did you keep the ceiling from falling on us too? Roof caves in"

    I could go on...
