  • We keep holding these debates, but it seems all of our uneducated brainwashed constituents keep wanting to vote for some asshole who thinks he's too important to show up to them. So we quit. Thoughts and prayers.

  • I'm sorry, but that is just ridiculous. I might even say impossible. There's some kind of distortion of the numbers here.

  • I don't disagree that gun violence is a huge problem in the US, and we can all agree that we need to have serious discussion about realistic solutions.

But there are SO many more people in the US than in Denmark. It's not even close. It has roughly the population as Colarado for the entire country.

That's not to say there aren't many, many more mass shooting instances in Colarado (I'm using the term mass shooting to mean a person shooting strangers on purpose in a planned attack in a place unlikely to have armed victims like a school, movie theater or gay night club) than Denmark, so I feel it's a bit disingenuous to compare the whole US to Denmark.

Denmark also has a lot less poverty and better access to healthcare and mental health services as compared to the US.

So I know it feels good to try and make your point this way, but it's not really the same at all. There's more to this than guns and "Americans dumb".

  • But what if I don't want to wear a hoodie and sunglasses when I'm inside on my computer?

  • JFC I used to be a libertarian and I still agree with some of their values, but over the last 20 years they've really just become a joke. Not as much as the GOP, who intentionally associate with Cruz and MTG, but this is getting there.

It's like someone said "it can't be worse than Ted Cruz and Margie..." And the libertarian is all "hold my beer."

  • Dude needs to promise to legalize weed at the federal level to make up for his past bullshit. That would probably get folks out to vote. Imma vote for the old geezer anyway because I don't want to live though Trump being president again. If Trump gets office again, he'll likely never leave.

  • A large format (12 inch) tablet running Linux with stylus and external monitor support

  • I buy some physical books, but mostly either borrow from the library or for some rare stuff I aquire backup copies from various places online.

If there is a graphical element to a book, like an atlas, or even books like "House Of Leaves" or "pallbearers club" where the ebook is inferior due to the formatting and typesetting, I'll buy the physical copy.

Recently I've been buying really premium versions of books I reread like the deluxe slipcase of LotR and other tolkien stuff (histories box set is next on my list) and the Akira box set. These are things I read every couple of years so I just like to have and hold the really nice stuff.

I also usually like to get physical copies of RPG books because it's faster to use at the table and I don't get distracted by a tablet. The physical version of Mork Borg (and feretory + heretic) is in itself a work of art.

  • This is simply wrong. Many of the worst mass shootings in the last decade were committed with low power rifles and handguns. I'm actually pretty sure the two worst mass shootings (by count of those who were killed) in the US were done using .22 ammunition. Those weapons were not covered by whatever ban you're talking about

It's not about "assault weapons" and it's not even about guns. It's about the inability of our government to pass meaningful legislation around gun ownership and mental health and especially where those two topics intersect

The problem is that human suffering is normalized because the wealthy political class and those who fund them are not going to let things change for the better if it means less money for them.

  • This being so common is creepy, but I feel like I just read/heard about a case where some pedo was recently arrested because a tech found CSAM on his phone during a repair and reported him. I really value privacy, but in that one case I'm glad the tech got nosey. I'm a bit intoxicated right now and cannot remember where I heard about this, but probably some true crime podcast or YouTube channel. I'll update with a source if I remember.

EDIT here's one, but there are dozens of cases like this if you search https://kmph.com/news/local/tech-repair-shop-helps-arrest-customer-possessing-child-pornography-in-fresno

  • A bunch of ai garbage and also some ads please! Maybe collect info about me and sell it to marketing corporations while you're there.

  • Marvel Champions. Excellent game I can play solo or with friends. Tons to collect without feeling like I'm getting ripped off. And I weirdly enjoy organizing it while ignoring how messy my office and the rest of my house are.

  • 100% if that country is in northern Europe. Hard nope if it's in South America.

I'd buy a ticket tomorrow if there was a job for me in a Scandinavian country and I didn't need to speak the language immediately.
