  • I didn't think any will work.

Rickroll has been a thing for what 20 years? It's not about just being catchy. It came about in a time when 'going viral' still meant something. Early Internet culture spread it everywhere. I remember an addon in WoW that was a full screen Rickroll. People everywhere in various forums were tricking folks. So many people have grown up with it.

  • In theory a great idea. But more and more people are walking around with guns and more and more people believe violence is the answer to everything and more and more people are just completely unhinged because they have main character syndrome. I'm not risking getting shot.

  • It's almost like that 99% is because they don't have an alternate option.

I've had phones from the '90s that still work, so not sure what $5 headphones you were using or what you were doing with them. I'm fairly confident that no matter what price point none of your pod things will function 20-30 years from now. Is that mean you haven't lost them by then.

  • If only they had some medium to post the information, perhaps a medium that that VAST MAJORITY of their viewers use.

“But the plans were on display…”

“On display? I eventually had to go down to the cellar to find them.”

    “That’s the display department.”

    “With a flashlight.”

“Ah, well, the lights had probably gone.”

    “So had the stairs.”

“But look, you found the notice, didn’t you?”

“Yes,” said Arthur, “yes I did. It was on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying ‘Beware of the Leopard.”

  • At least half of the people working in tech shouldn't be. They have 0 clue what they're doing and that's dangerous. And far to many people solve everything with a golden hammer.

You don't need a Mac to work in IT. Especially if all your doing is ansible.

Ansible sucks. It's slow, it's limited, it gives a false sense of understanding to do many. I mean it's nice that it's a structured playground for some folks I suppose. But there are better tools that do the exact same thing. Or you could just write a proper script.

  • Agreed.

Stories are trope filled and unoriginal most of the time (there's a few that seem like they try). The art is lazy. There used to be complex mature themes and now there's like 5 madlibs used to pump out generic crap. I feel like the last one I saw that felt like classic anime was Knights of Sidonia

  • So Musk really is just going full Bond-esk super villain with world domination right? That's what this is? He doesn't have to win any election so long as he can just buy every government, which he can then ensure he owns all the money, to buy more...

  • The Alters isn't out yet. Expected release Q1 2025. It's on my wish list because I love the demo.

Indika they were just the publisher. On top of which, maybe has a story that not everyone is interested in. I watched these guys play it, https://youtu.be/MuiHtAYOqgI and while it's creative and it's overall a fantastic game, is not one I'm going to play myself.

The Thaumaturge, again they are just the publisher. I hadn't even heard of this one which means as the publisher they did a terrible job marketing it.

  • Sometime in the future, assuming the human race even lasts long enough.

Basically when a world like Star Trek TNG exists.

All my stupid health problems could be fixed.

To be able to travel space would be great, to lay on the moon and watch the Earth. Go admire Jupiter (from a distance).

Work, not because I have to, but because I enjoy the challenge and want to better myself and humanity.

I know for the show they couldn't really go all out, but I think being a holodeck author would be fun as a side hobby. Could be in a fun working out with whomever inspired you. Hands on learning, anything. Visit places you can't (like surface of Venus). But also think of like what a video game would be like because you wouldn't need a controller or VR headset you're just there. So you could be a Space Marine. Or be Spider-Man! We've done reading books, we've done watching books, we've even done audiobooks... But there you could participate. Or maybe just be there and watch it unfold.

  • Yeah, most of those sites end up recommending the same brands over and over, which causes people to buy them and talk about them. I don't want to say, a scam, but it feels... scummy.

They never talk about other brands like Ubiquiti. Which isn't a perfect brand either, but I've never seen it compared. Or even a low end Netgate. It's always TP-Link, Asus, Netgear, Linksys, or D-Link... the same brands that have existed for the last 20 years offering crap. But Ubiquiti, Hawking, Belkin, etc. you basically never see.

I just googled it. Top 3 sites were wired.com, pcmag.com, and reddit.com/r/HomeNetworking (with a top comment pointing to cnet.com and nytime.com). And if you guessed TP-Link was recommended no.1 on all of them, you'd be right. To me, with the absolute garbage reviews on all of them, and the stupidity small sample size, it feels like TP-Link just buys the reviews because customers will read the reviews and buy their garbage. There was a mattress company that did something very similar years ago. The deck is stacked against customers.

And especially scummy, is TP-Link offers some cheaply made, highly marked up garbage that underperforms. They also are notorious for not delivering consistent updates to their routers. Maybe one or two updates, and they certainly don't care if all the features don't work. Just looked up one I bought from them before I wised up, the Archer C5400. 2 updates on a $200 router, that came highly recommended. Checked the v2, and also just 2 updates. I doubt it'll ever see another.

    On top of their terrible support and pathetic hardware... they also moved to a cloud SaaS config model. They want you to sign up for an account and use TP-Link Tether. Here's something written up 3 years ago on [reddit](https://www.reddit.com/r/hardware/comments/tbthjj/psa_newer_tplink_routers_send_all_your_web/}

My general suggestion for most people who want something that just works and is easy to use... the Ubiquiti Dream router isn't a bad option. It's not the best, but if you don't want to really get into how networking works, it's a good option.

  • Saying "legally" isn't much of an argument, IMO, not to imply you meant it as one. What's legal or illegal is arbitrarily decided on by those in power, and arbitrarily enforced. The vast majority of these laws were not voted on by us and they're rarely if ever reviewed.

  • I mean if you surround it with chicken and some Alfredo instead of marinara you got yourself a pretty nice pizza.

But that's not what they did. They must be one of those that throws broccoli into their spaghetti. Not on the side,.. in.
