  • As someone who's currently upgrading his setup, I've had no luck so far with firmware.

Can you point to some resources? I'm still a novice and I'm sure I'm not the only one. I've done some DDG searching and turned up some hot garbage, maybe I'm looking in all the wrong places?

  • I got lucky, I converted from the ol' shitheap that reddit became at the time of the protests.

This was in the before-times when folks here were more excited about helping people see the FOSS light than they were complaining about people searching for the FOSS light (repeatedly).

I never needed to make a post of my own, there were a good few getting around and a LOT of helpful/insightful/educational comments with a derth of information and sources provided for further investigation.

Once again (as previously in this comment section), I vote megathread.

  • As someone who recently made the switch (without posting about it woohoo!), I've found more information across the clone posts than in any one thread, I second the megathread idea mentioned above.

I've made a few comments regarding distros/switching on many of the aforementioned posts and I would happily dig them up and repost them as a comment on a megathread, on the slim chance my experience helps smooth out the entry for others.

  • I bought an 8yo car 2 years ago. It's just about to hit 100kkm on the odometer, and cost me a couple grand today as a result of the previous owner's lack of care/maintenance.

I've been upgrading/replacing things as I've been able to afford to, but this is the last car I buy (that isn't electric) as a result of the ridiculous pricing of vehicles today. I certainly couldn't afford the car I CURRENTLY OWN if I had to buy it today.

Also note I adore this car, otherwise I wouldn't be putting all this time AND money in, it would be one or the other (or sale :D )

Luckily for me public transport and emobility vehicles (scooters, bikes and skateboards, [I chose skateboard]) in my city are much better than the average in my country. Also regarding emobility vehicles I'm in one of the only states where they aren't banned (except on private property).

I'm hoping I get many more years of smiles out of my road legal track car, in the event I don't it will be sold (or stripped out for track only) and I'll just ride my bike more, it's faster and makes a better noise anyway.

On top of being much better for the environment, I hope EV conversions become commonplace very soon. I would much rather (regrettably) convert my car to EV than buy a purpose built one, I don't need GPS, lane keep, cameras, spyware, a giant tablet screen (otherwise known as a distraction) and a small fortune for every one of those components that fails. I just need instruments to tell me if the car is working as designed/intended.

Sorry for the wall of text folks, as you were.

  • Iirc in the 2019/20 bushfires here in Oz, over 1B hectares were scorched, flora and fauna decimated nationwide. I smoked for years, I can tell you now more damage was done to my airways by those fires than all the durries I punched.

If we're going to burn the world to the ground, can we at least start with all the mansions, bunkers and superyachts?

  • This comment is hinged entirely on the assumption that a(more like many) for-profit business won't immediately make it a money printer to make line go up, sure the tech may be amazing and huge for accessibility but I see it getting almost immediately milked like most other new technologies.
