  • The Russo-Ukrainian War is that very battle gone hot and bloody. I see Gaza as a distraction from it that we can do very little to influence.

I'm a history guy, so I see this all from a very big perspective, where it becomes impossible to keep ones hands perfectly clean. I think the best way to help Gazans is actually, very counter-intuitively, to help Netanyahu, since it keeps him from being backed into a corner and forced to adopt even more brutal, dictatorial, but also slower methods to accomplish his own personal goals, which he will pursue regardless.

If we could save Gazans somehow I would be in favor of that, but simply stopping the flow of weapons would not do that. There are many ways to ethnically cleanse, and we simply cannot change that. So to me, it's weighing between 100k Gazan casualties and 1 million Gazan casualties.

Unless we took hostile action against Israel, but that would have its own consequences. It's very much a rock-and-a-hard-place with no good answers. We simply cannot save them, not at the current moment.

Even the UN resolution was just calling for a cease fire. It wasn't an actual, enforced cease fire, where you go and make it happen through coercion or force. And even if we did, hamas would still be there, still preying on Gazans in pursuit of their own goals.

The Israeli-Palestinian Conflict is just pure ugly. Personally I support a rescinding of our treaties with Israel, but we can't do that during a war without further destabilizing the globe by demonstrating we will not honor our treaty obligations.

  • If our government is too paralyzed to help fund their defense, there are ways to bypass that.

A lot of the pro-Ukrainian youtube celebrities, guys like Artur Rehi, organize nonprofit fundraisers to buy necessary military equipment for them, and then dude goes and drives it there himself from his home in Estonia. And videos the whole thing and publishes it on his youtube, so people can see what their donations bought. Transparently.

What they need most is drones capable of carrying a weaponized payload, and those don't require a full-on military-industrial complex to supply. A person can just buy 50 from normal commercial suppliers and send them, and that is very directly helpful assistance.

We may need Uncle Sam to help out with the Bradleys and F-16s and such, but so much of this war has been and continues to be waged by light infantry using whatever they can get their hands on.

  • Sure. Go over into 4chan and try any behavior they would describe as "white knighting" or "simping". You will rapidly experience some social consequences intended to dissuade that behavior.

  • Since people are covering the more common options, I'll point out a rarer one. If I remember right, (please correct me if I'm wrong) the Stuxnet virus was able to infiltrate a highly sensitive nuclear enrichment facility because someone planted a zip drive in the parking lot, and some employee went ahead and plugged it in at work to see what it was.

  • Dems have plenty of spokespeople. All 50 millionish of us. Grassroots is how we fight.

Otherwise it's just a talking head, or a message from some media org, all of which have lost a great deal of trust. But an individual showing someone something like how to use ground.news to see a bigger picture is a bit of a different story, it's personal. You can see their eyes as you talk to them.

  • So, I'm not a woman, nor am I overly feminine, and I still call out toxic bullshit when I see it. If you want to say the problem is women/feminists though, fine whatever, if we cleaned up our own shit first, we might be able to make that stick. But when we're bastards and they're bitches, and we complain, we're kinda the fucked up ones, y'know? Since we were supposed to be strong in the first place.

Unless you just think life is shit and everyone should get used to it. Then, just move to Russia or something, for everyone's sake.

  • No, it is specifically illiberal spaces that encourage more toxic masculinity, in a bit of a cycle. While the space itself may be extremely liberal and rules-free, a local culture can take over and enforce those same toxic norms in place of any set of rules. And frequently does. While the space may be ostensibly liberal, in effect it is not, due to the behavior of its community.

This is the majority of mens spaces, unfortunately. Online anyway.

  • So, spaces that encourage toxic masculinity do exist, and they are fully aware of their ruination. See: 4chan.org.

edit: I see some of the confusion here, since 4chan is seemingly liberal, due to having no formal rules. However, that is an illusion. A man is not actually free to say anything they like without consequences there. It's just that the norms will be enforced by the community, instead of any kind of authority. This is not actual liberty and freedom, simply indoctrination cloaked in an illusion of freedom.

Real freedom would allow a man to express something like sympathy, or being against gamergate, and express that opinion in peace. The reality of such spaces does not actually permit this.

It seems liberal and free, but in effect it is not. This is similar to how Trump seems to be strong sometimes, but in reality is weak and cowardly. Toxic masculinity loves its illusions.

  • Liberal, as in, believing in liberty. Freedom. How many mens spaces do you know of, where a man is completely free to open up, with full liberty and freedom from immediate consequences, about feelings they may have inside of them?

There's actually not a lot. It's a reflection of masculine indoctrination, where men in many places are made to feel like they almost need to be ready to become a soldier at any moment. Guarded, careful. It's no good, unless your country is actually at war.

  • Yeah, when someone makes a claim like all repubs vote for a fascist, they should back it the fuck up. Unless that says-whatever-he-wants asshole is your role model or something.

Except you know you're just spewing bullshit like this is all a game, and not something that will result in actual, real life bloodshed and a worsening of all our lives, and maybe even the loss of our freedom to some militaristic, idiot-run future.
