  • No I'm saying the entire premise is bullshit. You're talking about a conversation that isn't even taking place and I'm saying the ADL is trying to convince you it is because it benefits them if you believe it.

  • This is what manufacturing consent looks like. This increasing barrage of news about a topic, most of which is based on nuggets of truth but stretched so thin you can see your hand on the other side. The idea is to make you believe something needs to be done just with the sheer volume of time spent talking about something.

The reality is that the ADL is a Zionist front that is full of shit even on their best day, and they want control over Valve the same way they have the CEOs or owners of Reddit, Meta, and even smaller players like Bumble under their thumb. You watch, they will pressure the government to act and then when the squeeze is coming, offer Valve an easy out by joining their special advisory board on tech.

  • When "I don't think this job deserves a living wage" meets "no one wants to work!!11!1!1!"

There are still business owners in my city whining about a lack of workers. The jobs they're offering? Part-time with constantly changing but always horrible hours, no compensation besides the minimum wage. Yeah I guess everyone is just lazy?

  • Had some friends try to get me to play. Gave it a good 20 hours or so, spent most of it just trying to get anywhere. About a quarter of the time some random guy would zoom along and blow me up before he even showed up on radar, and now I was on a timer waiting for my ship to come back. Another 10% of the time I'd get sucked through my ship when I tried to use FTL, there goes another ship recovery timer.

The time consumption even when things go right is absolutely ridiculous, and they often go wrong. The random PK shit feels so fucking awful that I'd really rather just play something else.

I have played and enjoyed games that require patience, like Wurm Online and EVE Online. Star Citizen is on a level above even those and I'm not sure I would have liked it even before I had kids, but now? Forget it.

  • Seems like I won’t get Steam Deck anytime soon

You can save a lot by buying a lower model and swapping the SSD later; it will end up cheaper in total as well as immediately, which makes it almost a no-brainer. It's not as simple as a PC but it's still easy enough that if you've ever done it for a PC you will likely manage it. If you happen to live around the Ottawa/Gatineau area in Canada, I'll do the swap for you if you're not comfortable with it, you just need to supply the SSD (and I can give suggestions on that).

I don't know if any of that helps you at all but this is a realm I know well and I try to help where I can.

  • Now that we have viable PC handhelds I no longer have a reason to care about Nintendo. Blast the pirates or don't, I'm not buying their shit either way. On the other hand I've got a lot of friends who actually have decent money in Nintendo's ecosystem who use emulators to play the games they own in a way they prefer. This has left a bad taste in their mouths...

  • It's not obvious at all bro. I see unironic shit like that posted on here all the time. I live and breathe IT so I am all too aware some IT folks are fucking assholes about this.

That said I really do think the bar needs to be raised a bit. People struggling to setup meetings in Outlook in 2024 is not ok.

  • Do you pay people to change your car's oil? Do you call in an HVAC tech when your air conditioner's capacitor dies? Do you bring your computer into a shop to have the storage upgraded?

These are all fairly easy things to do. I make good money replacing and upgrading storage in laptops, desktops, and other devices like Steam Decks, a few hundred a month from that alone. It's nearly trivial in difficulty, like replacing the fill valve or the chain that connects it to the handle, but people pay and I'm not about to tell them not to.

  • I've seen it a lot (I do PC builds/repairs as a side gig). I just assume it will cause me grief from the start and keep both USB2 and USB3 sticks handy.

To be fair I've had the issue with Unraid too, but only on one brand's B450 motherboards in my testing. I didn't have a whole bunch to try of course but MSI and Asus was fine, Gigabyte not. X570 didn't have this problem in my experience.

  • Not sure if you played the original version but the remaster adds new attacks to some enemies and changes some of their behaviours. It also seems to have changed some enemy spawns, I think. It made the game feel fresh in a way I wasn't expecting for something I probably played through a few dozen times lol.
