Hey, my wife and I both drive a manual. But that's not our personality, we just kept getting burned by automatics when buying crappy used cars.

The rest of it does sound very familiar, to this red-state resident. It's wild how empty some people are, and how desperate they are to fill their heads with something.

First of all, disclaimer, I'm just a random weirdo on the internet. I don't have a law degree, I'm not a politician. I'm probably naked and masturbating while writing this.

Are we going to have a Civil War 2: Now With More F150's where it's the north vs the south? No.

Are we going to reach a point where the US sort of falls apart into separate little countries after a lot of unpleasantness? I'm not as confident in saying "No".

I think what will happen first is less "civil war" and more "societal collapse". There are very few places in the US where someone can rent an apartment by themselves, and have a decent life with nice hobbies, while only having one income. Buying a house by yourself is even farther out of reach.

But I am noticing something that is a lot closer to everyone than real estate: food is getting expensive. A hamburger at a fast food joint used to be a quick and cheap, although not healthy, way to get lunch, but now a combo meal basically anywhere is $15. For one person. So cook at home, right? Ignoring the difficulties of cooking for oneself after working both jobs, or working all day at one job, that isn't much cheaper. Making a healthy meal for yourself and your family is a skill that not everyone has, and groceries aren't cheap either. I think the first thing that is going to happen is going to be mass food theft, followed by food riots. It's already starting in fact, how many memes have popped up with variations on the saying "If you see someone stealing food, no you didn't"? Stealing food from a large company is acceptable for a lot of people. With rising COL, we will approach a point where a majority of people cannot afford food, and food isn't a house or a shiny new car. Food isn't a choice.

There will be hysterical articles in NYT about how these poor struggling retailers are losing SO MUCH money (but not really) from theft, and you'll start seeing two squad cars parked outside of every grocery store and walmart - even in "nice" areas.

And that's where things will start to escalate. Not everyone likes police now, and seeing a neighbor thrown on the ground and arrested, if not just killed, in walmart because she was trying to get food for her family isn't going to make them more popular. One or two cops cannot fend off everyone in a walmart. Oh, the cops have guns? That's adorable, so do some people in a walmart. Political feelings about police won't matter when it's your stomach growling, when it's your children going hungry.

I expect this would be the point where food would get locked up, only distributed by employees. Which would make it cost more, and more time consuming to acquire. There will be lines. There will also be people who will grow food - but not everyone can do that, and I'm cynical enough to think that some locales will pass laws against "backyard farming" in the name of "food safety", pushed by grocery stores trying to get that extra .025% profit this quarter.

What will happen once people can't get food, will be the local PD being completely unable to enforce anything.

Remember that it's bread AND circuses.

New Thing Discovered!

I have a K1 and was wondering if it would be mentioned. In the beginning I had extrusion problems, I contacted Creality and they had new, redesigned parts in my hand in a week. Since then it has been a workhorse, slapping perfect prints down every time.

I used to work with a guy who could draw. He would absentmindedly create masterpieces with a sharpie and a dirty sheet of cardboard while waiting on a machine to finish. He said the only reason he can do it is because he practiced.

Every cool thing you see someone do, they're only capable of it because they kept trying every day.

My father in law was terrible about trying to crowbar politics into every discussion. Everyone could be talking about baking cookies and he'd start whining about how trump is being persecuted (this was before he was being prosecuted) and how it's illegal to be christian (his house is crawling distance from two churches) amd whatever else fox news told him to think. He finally burned his last bridge and told my wife (his daughter, of course) that he didn't want to see her again. Her "Oh thank god, bye" reaction isn't what he expected.

Treaties aside, my issue is that it's always the US that everyone begs money from in these situations. We get shit on constantly for a bunch of reasons, some valid, but when someone comes along and starts making threats the question is always "What will the US do about this?"

Sure. Just like the diesel modification wankers were pursued by the law. It didn't stop them either.

Every time something like this pops up, I'm reminded of a line from a silly book I read as a kid:

"When technology advances, the technology to outsmart it advances too."

The people making these regulations don't understand car people. That cute little mandatory device will be defeated, and a workaround will be sold, within the first year. The same thing happened with diesel trucks - EPA mandated emissions controls were built in the sloppiest possible fashion by engine manufacturers, and when these expensive trucks started needing thousands of dollars of work with fewer than 100,000 miles, people started disabling the emissions controls.

The same thing will happen with this regulation. It will be implemented in the cheapest, most failure prone way possible to save Ford or whoever $5 per unit. Drivers will start having problems with their whiz-bang fancy electronic DUI detector bricking their car, and boom, now there's a market for disabling or removing the devices.

Also, just to attract more downvotes - there doesn't seem to be any similar regulation being pushed for motorcycles. Consider a Goldwing instead of an Accord?

I worry a lot more about road rage and distracted drivers than drunks. Last week in the nearby large-ish city a woman was run off the side of a bridge and her car fell 60ft and landed on it's roof in the river bed. She will be OK, but still yikes.

Honest question from someone who wants to see Ukraine not be overrun by orcs: Why is the US always the one who has to fund wars? There are some countries in the EU that have given a bit of suport, but the guys who are across the ocean seem to be the ones everyone looks to for money. Aren't you clever enlightened boys and girls from the European Union able to take care of this?

Every single time there is some conflict the idiots in charge here have to get big hard-ons and start getting involved. And we are told to stay out of it. But now Ukraine needs money and for some reason everyone focuses on the US providing it. Same with Israel, why are we the ones who have to prop them up?

I'd really like to know. Everyone hates the US until they want money or weapons. We aren't the ones next door to russia, the EU is. And we aren't anywhere near the middle east, so why are we wasting so much money on israel?

Isn't it almost time for this guy to run away to Mexico and blame his family for it?

I'm going to sit down with Mom and get a refresher course on sewing. I can make simple stuff.
