  • 4 year headstart on my career and 40k for training and investments early in life goes a long way.

Let's put it this way. I dropped out of my degree program. My partner got their masters in the same field. I make more money, in a field that I enjoy, than my partner makes in their degree-adjacent field.

Okay I may just be the exception.

My dad has an MBA. He stopped doing business shit nearly 40 years ago, and makes more money running databases.

My brother just cleared a million dollars this year. No degree, self-taught programmer.

My other brother has 2 degrees, also codes for a living. He says what he learned in school has zero application to what he does today.

My sister graduated with a degree in industrial design, interned with Mattel and Hasbro... She does cloud application development now.

Out of all the people I know, I can think of 4 that had higher education than was relevant to their careers. 3 of them are Boomers, and the last one is my stepdad, who got his degree at a technical college on the cheap.

I ultimately decided to drop when I was applying for summer internships in my desired field, and multiple places told me they wouldn't even look at me for an unpaid internship with less than a Masters. I quit that fall semester and saved myself 20k.

  • Won't work. That kind of evidence would be presented at a trial. For your average ICE agent, your documentation, and lack of criminal record makes it obvious that you have ties to a powerful street gang who is hiding your crimes.

This is literally what ICE has argued in the past few months.

  • Eh, my family camped frequently and reno'd/repaired multiple houses. I think the only time we used a truck was to take a bunch of bathroom tile scrap to the dump. Everything else was done with minivans or a club wagon.

  • Grew up in a house with no AC in the summer. Would easily hit high 80s inside during the day and hover in the lower 80s or high 70s at night.

You learn how to deal with it. Use fans to bring cooler air in at night. Close up windows and curtains (especially south-facing blinds) during the day. Hydrate frequently. At night, strip down as far as comfortable, use just a sheet instead of a blanket, and have a fan to circulate air. AC is a relatively new invention, people have been living longer in hotter areas without it. 78 degrees should literally be "no sweat".

  • I didn't mow my lawn like planned this weekend because an bunch of violets and dandelions and other flowers popped up, and the bees were having a great weekend because of it.

Bonus points : The Scott's Lawn truck came through and they didn't even bother leaving a flyer on my door.

  • This.

Also, I'd you don't have time to signal, then you don't have time to make that maneuver.

Avoid fast lane changes and short notice turns. Remember that the people in the other 2 ton crushing machines hurtiling along at 70+ mph probably have below average intelligence, no insurance, and are fucking around on their phones.

  • Millennial here pushing 40.

It took 4 years of savings, some CC debt and assistance from my family to get into my first home...

And that's with dual income, no kids.

Good luck everybody. I'm with you when you start burning shit. I have not forgotten what a damn racket the rental market has been for the last 6 years.
