Fellow Heathens, what are your favorite Folk/Viking/Medieval metal/rock bands?

  • My parents were supportive, so I wanted to include them since in a way I would be taking away that moment that they named their child. I asked my mom for the list of baby girl names she'd had for me and picked my favourite from them. That way she still had chosen my true name and I also got to choose one that fit me very well.

  • If we are talking about the original Bioshock I can provide a competing perspective. I found the story to be extremely mid at its peak, and actually mind numbingly poor at the great moment of reveal. I literally fell asleep multiple times trying to get through the game. So if you are not vibing with it in the first 1/3 of the game I think there's a good chance you just won't.

    I'm really glad that so many people loved this game. There are many different kinds of stories that work for many different kinds of people and this one works for a LOT of people. It has an amazing aesthetic. But it didn't work for me.

  • I agree big time. Rimworld is so replayable and totally worth the price of admission. Strangely enough, it's another indie game that never goes on any significant discount.

  • Quick reminder that these honeybee hives are not the natural local pollinators in north america. You can support pollination by making an environment friendly for your local pollinators. Plant bee friendly wildflowers. In my area mason bees are local and popular. They don't make honey but they do keep the veggies and fruits going.

    Of course I don't want honeybee hives to collapse, but don't get the impression that they are the only pollinators.

  • I'm in Nanaimo BC and I live more or less car free. I own a car but I just put storage insurance on it and don't drive it unless I absolutely need to. Otherwise I use my ebike to get around town. This works because we have some good multi-use paths that can take me from one end of town to the other and I don't have to mix with traffic often.

  • In my town I ride my ebike downtown for some errands. It's about 30 minutes each way. Not bad, so I thought what does it look like in winter when it's going to be snowy and rainy and yuck outside? Transit would have taken me 40 minutes. Which isn't bad at all, I would have taken it except that the 40 minute trip was 10 minutes on the bus and 30 minutes walking.

    I just rode my bike.
