  • He's completely right, and I don't get why more people don't see that. As an example, here in Denmark, the leader of the far right populist party is both the one saying climate change would be a good thing since it means warmer summer weather as well as constantly bringing up nuclear energy any single time someone starts talking about climate change. It's honestly so transparent. I used to see the same thing all the time on Reddit, and now I guess it's Lemmy's turn for this shit.

  • The problem with your hoola hoop example is that it keeps moving after you go through it so that you have the same relative velocity. However, in the portal example, the exit portal is stationary, so in order to stay the same relative velocity to it when you exit is to speed up yourself, as in B.

  • If the entire world turned vegan would it make a difference?

Yes, yes it would. About 14.5% of CO2e is from the meat industry, by changing our habits, we would make the world a better place. I'm not saying policy is not the most important factor, but if people are not willing to change their habits, this disaster will not be solved.

  • What do you think big companies produce to make CO2? What do you think the big barges are transporting? At the end of the day, companies make what consumers want. And the meat industry is a horrible contributor to climate change, not to talk about land and water usage. So say all you want to make you feel better, which is fine, but the facts are that we as a society need to eat less meat to be more sustainable. Eating meat twice a day is not necessary, and nor is it even common, both on a global and historical scale. It is a luxury that we have to think hard about whether we should reduce the use of.

  • Am I missing something, or is the president resigning over having hired someone who are for LGBTQ+ and other minority rights? Is that what people are outraged over? How conservative is the university board that this was ever considered an issue?

  • It's not like you need 100 degrees of granularity in telling the temperature of the weather. Also, 0 degrees Celsius is by far the most influential temperature in day to day life, at least if you live somewhere it occurs.
