  • If you're running a fever you should definitely let that happen (assuming it's nothing too crazy, of course). Your body does that to try to kill the infection with heat.

Your body is also trying to kill the infection by finding the virus "cells" and consuming them. The fever's helpful just in case your body can't get a handle on things. That was useful back in the days before evidence-based medicine, but not so much now. There's no good reason not to treat the fever.

  • There's this idea that relieving the fever makes your recovery take longer, but that's based on a misunderstanding off the role of fevers. Yes, a fever happens because it helps you eradicate viruses and other infections, but it's basically the last line of defense. Your immune system is also working on making antibodies and white cells. That will still happen regardless of whether you're allowing yourself to suffer through a fever or not. There is no evidence at all that treating a fever lengthens an infection, so you might as well help yourself rest by not feeling totally miserable.

  • Well if you remember Marco Polo, the Venetian explorer from the 13th century, famously established a trade route to China. That was about 250 years before Columbus. Of course there was already trade back and forth between Europe and Asia, but let's just not forget the future Italian who is just famous for connecting with China!

  • Ambitions don't have to be professional though. That's something that I see a lot, where someone is deeply motivated to do something, but it doesn't involve money, so people blow it off. It's a little crazy. I don't actually see wanting to make a ton of money as being ambitious, I find it to just be greed. To me ambitious means doing something for a reason OTHER than money and power.

  • I will never understand why people are so set on spaces...

They just never really understood tabs. If they did, they wouldn't be sitting there counting how many times they hit the space bar!

  • You might also want to try watching a bunch of wholesome ones that your mum might be interested (hobbies, crafts, travel, history, etc) in to push the recommendations in a direction that will meet her interests.

This is a very important part of the solution here. The algorithm adapts to new videos very quickly, so watching some things you know she's into will definitely change the recommended videos pretty quickly!

  • You can view sidebar on mobile. I think it's in the three dots, but it's somewhere!

EDIT: On Jerboa it's under Community Info, under the three dots. On the mobile web app for L.W. there's a sidebar button.

  • There is no such thing as an "illegal immigrant" in this country. It is not illegal to be in the US without papers, no matter if you entered legally or not. And "entering legally" means going through a checkpoint. You have to do that regardless of whether you're a citizen or not. Plenty of undocumented immigrants enter legally and then overstay their visa, which is not a crime in the US. It's literally not part of the criminal code.

  • I took an entire graduate course in QM and a quantized Universe does, in fact, seem pixelated. That's exactly how I explain it to people. There's simply a finite level to how closely you can zoom in. Space, time, and energy are all quantized, and maybe even gravity though we haven't figured that one out yet.

  • Can we talk more about your aversion to libraries? You can get great digital and audio books, and I don't see a big difference getting a digital book from the library versus downloading one from PG. Is it an app issue?
