Cool. Let me know if you like it. I use a more mass-produced one because they have a thicker sole (just soft leather on mine). Although my traditional ones would work if I got a smaller size originally (they stretched more than I thought).
Do you have a favorite procedure for doing so? I got this old boombox (the kind you'd carry on your shoulder) but playing tapes on it sucks.
I want to try cleaning it, and was going to look into the head cleaner tapes.
Edit: thanks for the advice. Tried the isopropanol and q-tip, it worked great. Turns out there's a bit of an issue with the volume pot, but as long as you find the sweet spot and don't move it much, you get a damn clear sound.
Surprised how much it helped, but I guess it makes sense. Also, if the "boombox" I cleaned was built today, I doubt I'd be able to dismantle and clean everything so easily. No need to de-solder wires, everything was clipped in. No plastic clips that break when you put a bit too much force on them. I miss old electronics. Minus the 8 - D batteries it uses (thankfully it has an AC adapter that's the same as the PlayStation one).
