  • Their filament has RFID tags that contain the optional print settings for that filament, such as model temperature, bed temperature, etc. The RFID reader only exists on the AMS, and doesn't actively block 3rd party filament from being used. The tag is on the spool itself, so even if they did block filament, you could just transfer it to a Bambu spool.

It actually looks like the private key has been extracted now, so it's kind of game over as far as blocking 3td party tools. https://hackaday.com/2025/01/19/bambu-connects-authentication-x-509-certificate-and-private-key-extracted/

  • I expect that the physics of true invisibility would actually make you blind, since your retinas wouldn't be able to absorb any photons. They would have to pass through unaltered to maintain invisibility. Otherwise people would be able to see 2 "shadows" where your retinas are.

  • For the most part that's true, but when something goes wrong, it really goes wrong.

For example, I wanted to play Path of Exile 2, and it would get stuck at a black screen on startup. The fix is "easy" on Windows, you just edit an ini file in "My Documents". To fix it on Linux, that same file is stored in

    /home/[YOUR USERNAME]/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/2694490/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/My Games/Path of Exile 2/poe2_production_Config.ini

Which is insane by any standard.

  • Almost any protocol can be wrapped in any other protocol. You could, say, use bit torrent by encoding the packets and embedding the data in valid png files, then transporting them over http. As long as both sides understand the wrapping it'll work just fine.

I've even seen http tunneled over DNS queries in order to completely bypass firewalls.

  • They would have a hell of a time trying to say they want to control API usage after letting everyone and their mother use it free and unrestricted for decades. But I wouldn't put it past them to try.
