  • It's dumb to call Trump a nazi and the populist wing of the Republican party nazis.

It's not even clever at this point, maybe it was edgy and transgressive like 7 years ago.

The reason it's dumb is that you are wasting all of your powerful language and you will have no more if things get worse. Boy who cried wolf. Just like people did to racist which used to carry great power and now is basically meaningless as a powerful descriptor.

  • Very simple, they can track a lot of your online activity (as well as of course what you watch on TikTok) and any of this could be used for future blackmail.

Or I'll spell it out. 15 years from now you are at middle management position in a defense contractor and some stranger reaches out to you and says they'll dump a bunch of insanely embarrassing shit from your 20s - think evidence of infidelity, porn playlists, etc - unless you do this simple thing, send them some plans now and then or pass along a password. Nobody will ever know.

No not you specifically, you're boring. Whoever is in positions they find interesting.

  • have spent some time on RedNote (Xiaohongshu) and all I have seen is friendly cross-cultural exchange and discussion between these supposed ‘adversaries’.

Nobody is saying the Chinese people and American people are enemies or adversaries.

  • Some specific examples within lemmy.world that prompted this would be helpful (not a request for you specifically, a general request).

A big problem on reddit is debate-oriented communities aggressively stifling debate and banning people for opinions well within the outside-the-internet window of acceptable discourse. So I can see why lemmy.world would not want to go further down that route if it appeared as if it were beginning to happen. Reddit can semi-tolerate it because there enough users to form niche communities if the big ones are terrible. Lemmy has nowhere near enough people.

Unfortunately t can't all be (1) or (2) because both extremes are terrible.

  • It's wild to me that we're having a discussion about Israel in these comments, voters told us exactly what their major concerns were and they were economic and it wasn't even close. Foreign policy, trans issues, etc are all hot button topics easy to argue over but voters felt the economy was bad and that's the biggest reason Trump won.
