  • There are so many no sugar added ketchups. They're not hard to find.

Unfortunately those usually contain artificial sweeteners and still taste way too sweet.

I finally managed to find one local (to the Netherlands) brand that sells ketchup without added sugars or sweeteners. The brand was actually started by a person with diabetes who wanted to cut out all sugar from her diet.

It’s so much better than the standard Heinz stuff. Much more savory, you can actually taste the tomatoes.

  • Mainstream Linux means a big part of people actively choosing to install a Linux distribution or buy a computer or notebook

How is that mainstream? Desktop computers (including notebooks) are a niche market.

  • Here they just let your balance go below zero (or below the maximum negative balance if you have that enabled on your account), and you get a notification to please make sure your balance is above the limit within X days or they will block any pending payments. The only charge is whatever the interest rate is you pay for a negative balance, so depending on the amount it could be a few cents or so.

Cheques haven’t been a thing in Europe for over 20 years or so, but back when we had them they were guaranteed up to a certain amount. Basically, they would never bounce as long as the amount was under the limit. This also meant that no one would accept a cheque over that limit, in which case you just wrote multiple cheques (the bank would only give you a limited number of them at a time, IIRC it was 10 for a standard account).

  • Here they just do random bag checks. When you press ‘pay’ there is a chance you get a notification to wait for an employee to check your bag. They then scan a random number of items from your bag (up to 10) and see if it matches what you scanned.

  • I love Linux, but I never expect it to be mainstream or even extremely accessible to typical users

It already is mainstream. You probably own 10 times as many computers running Linux than Windows without even knowing it.

Desktop computers are a just a tiny part of the market.

it'd probably get ruined somehow by corporate interference, monetization, etc.

Yeah, it did. It’s called Android.

  • Oh no, bagging your own items. I already had to do that because we don’t have demeaning jobs like that on this side of the pond.

Massive win for me as a shopper as the self checkout is much faster and doesn’t require human interaction.

  • Here you can choose between scanning at the self checkout (easiest if you just have a basket with a few items and you don’t have a free hand for the scanner), or you get a hand scanner, or you use the app on your phone.

  • But that's gone again now, and we are just left with the overly technical people who are going to circlejerk about the same things over and over.

I’m one of those ‘overly technical’ people and have zero interest in PC gaming. I prefer my PS5. I don’t want to mess around with computers too much in my spare time when I already do that for 40+ hours a week at work.
