  • The world would be a better place if we could replace every corporate climber type with this guy.

  • Paid an electrician to fish ethernet for me from my utility closet where the router is to my home office. Was well worth the expense. WiFi is great, and I use it for all the other devices in the house. But I work from home most days, and I got tired of the random slow-downs and drops.

  • Reminds me of one of my friends who is in his 50s and still obsessed with wolves like an elementary school kid. He non-ironically wears lots of wolf t-shirts and has his house decorated with tacky posters of them, etc.

I roll my eyes at it, but he's pretty fun to hang out with.

  • I heard this song playing in a restaurant at lunch today then I come home to find this. Freakin' weird.

  • Assuming I'm given time to brush up on it, math probably. Algebra, Geometry, and Trig. I was good at those and enjoyed tutoring math when I was in college. Calculus is awesome but I'm too dumb to teach that to anyone.

  • Figuring out how to automate them, when possible. Coding / scripting / debugging is more fun than tedious manual tasks, IMO.

  • No. I'm an 80s kid. It's kind of nice once in a while to forget it.

I imagine people with their phone in their faces while shopping, walking their dogs, etc. must have max anxiety over even the fleeting thought of not having their precious.

  • I hope she takes half his stuff.

  • Last time I attempted this, I threw my back out for a week.

    7/10 will try again.

  • I'm not an expert in political philosophy by any measure, but I kind of feel like lemmy.world is a small case study in the pros and cons of realpolitik.

  • I get super pissed when my shitty laptop and/or internet connection slows to a crawl while I'm working from home. It feels (irrationally) like a betrayal. It's my stupid work equipment hampering me when I just want to get shit done.

I usually fly off the handle and curse a blue streak while rebooting everything. Sometimes I think it's AV or bossware slowing me down.

Seems to happen at the worst times, too. Like when I'm trying to fix something important, and am already under time pressure.

  • Generally speaking, a modern heating system should not fail nearly this often, even if neglected. Need more information (like the type of heating system, age) but it sounds like it could be a wiring issue with the house, or a flaky dying controller. Replacing the controller is not that expensive, especially if you do it yourself.

  • I refuse to use Meta, and I block their various URLs in my home. Friends and family complain and give me grief about it. It's astonishing how much of a creep Zuck is, and yet he's got his hooks in deep, and some people are still addicted to his garbage.

  • A lot of it is untracked, though. I know we live in the era of big data, but Blizzard et al has no clue how many people are playing TIE Fighter Total Conversion and countless other old games. 5% is way too low of a made up estimate.

Hell, classic arcade emulators are ubiquitous.

My point here is not that game publishers aren't making money. My point is, gamers don't have to buy into it to have fun.

  • I know it's been a while, but I'm still getting used to the curly hair. Looks much better than the stupid Caesar thing he was going with before. But he still looks like a synth.

  • Shit like this is why people go back and play much older titles and have a great time with them.

c/patientgamers rise up! Or maybe not. We'll just wait until it goes on sale and maybe give it a try down the road.

  • I'm guessing most do not, because it takes a lot of work to spend a billion dollars. I speculate they are competitive with each other and want to be the richest of the rich. And/or they have dreams about colonizing Mars or whatever.

I think one blind spot many of them have is: you do NOT want to be a wealthy person living in a poor country.

  • Good chance to curate my block list.
