  • I'm confused on why people are paying so much money for Monopoly.

  • Well, they certainly didn't help by running a candidate that got destroyed in the only primary she ran in. I'm hoping they will step up and run some solid candidates next round. It's fucking embarrassing they lost to Trump...twice.

  • East Germany never fully recovered after Soviet occupation and the desolation the Soviets created. Germany has invested heavily rebuilding the east, but there is a constant brain drain, causing western migration of every German capable enough. This has left the east in a poor state they still have yet to recover from. The people in that region know this, but it doesn't change the fact they don't feel good about the lingering differences, which influences their voting behaviors heavily.

  • There are entire genres that only work with mouse/keyboard, and thus only really exist on PC. Notably 4X, RTS, base-building, and simulation games. They are where I would start:

Also, make sure to check out Is There Any Deal to give you historical (and current) best prices on games. PC games go on deep discounts on the regular. You do not need to buy PC games at full price if they were released more than 6 months ago.

  • Linux instructions:

    Relevant commands:

    • nordvpn settings - lists out settings
    • nordvpn set [SettingName] [NewValue] - sets the relavent setting
    • nordvpn whitelist add subnet [Mask] - whitelists the specified subnet to allow traffic originating there
    • nordvpn d and nordvpn c - to disconnect and connect
    • ifconfig - gets your current IP

    Bringing it all together:

    1. Run ifconfig to get your current IP. It's most likely 192.168.1.xxx
    2. Run nordvpn whitelist add subnet 192.168.1.0/24 to add your subnet to the whitelist (change the first three sections of the subnet to match what your IP is in the first command if it is different)
    3. Run nordvpn settings to view all settings and verify they look right, you should see your subnet in the whitelist section now
    4. Run nordvpn c to reconnect and apply your new settings

Now LAN connections can reach your computer, even while it is connected to the VPN. For incomming WAN connections, verify port forwarding is setup on your router to point to the computer.

    Optional:

    1. Run nordvpn set analytics disabled to disable analytics
  • NordVPN can be set to allow LAN traffic through. So, if you setup port forwarding on your router, which it sounds like you already did, it will then allow that LAN traffic in.

  • The US also has the best natural barriers to invasion in the world. The only access points are through the Arctic (good luck with that), or by traveling over a damn ocean to assault beaches on North American soil. When not only America has the largest navy in the world, but several of the runner ups are close allies, how do you plan on even getting to the US with your forces? You don't.

As you say, the US is well positioned in this changing world. It's one of the few countries almost guaranteed to continue to do well.

  • That is a massive price jump to $599. The SE (3rd gen) was priced at $429.

Apple has completely killed off the only mid-tier phone they offer.

    Edit: This picture....

  • Ukraine will have an election after the war is over. That has always been true.

  • Yep. The core issue is Congress continues to give the executive more and more power every administration (both D and R). Congress needs to take back some of their own power.

This announcement is basically saying he’s going to micromanage the fucking entire Executive Branch government.

That is pretty much the point of the executive, and by extension, the president. Congress creates departments with powers and the executive administers them.

  • To be clear, this is SoftBank Group, OpenAI, and Oracle investing in AI in the US. Not a US federal initiative.

  • We got all this dooming 8 years ago as well. We were fine then, we will be fine now.

  • I can't wait to see what the US does with this new front of the meta and how they will defeat everything with the application of more and more accurate scissors. You have a rock? Well, we will just defeat that with the correct scissor. Enjoy your day, i-rock!

In the larger meta: The enemy attempts to hard-counter with air-defense? Uno-reverse, hard counter the air-defense with air!

  • You don't really need one that is specifically Linux based, as you can format a windows box to Linux at will. Really any 10" laptop you find on cragslist or ebay should do.

Honestly, the only difficult requirement will be the 10" part. 12"-13" are much more common for small laptops.

  • Ukraine's strategy is to expel the invader and ask for any and all assistance in the defense of their country from Russia's war of conquest. All of the help from Poland, the UK, the US, Baltics, Germany, and other European countries is massively appreciated. More is requested and it's good to see the UK is stepping up in a much bigger way to assist in their defense.

  • The UK is one of the top supporters of Ukraine's defense against Russia's war of conquest of Ukraine. No way to spin that other than UK helping Ukraine's defense. British weapons are used daily to destroy the invader, as will continue until Russia goes home.

  • The UK wasn't responsible for France being invaded in WWII either. Yet, they helped push out the invader.

  • They should have done this three years ago. Not wait till today when the US is threatening to pull out. The only Europmeans who have been taking this seriously are Poland and the Baltics, as they know the horrors of being under Russian occupation.

But, the second best time to plant a tree is today! So, good on the UK!

  • Free VPNs are simply a bad idea.

What are they getting from you that allows them to pay for the 'free' service? It certainly isn't a monthly sub, and there is only one other thing you are sending them....your data.
