Taking someone else’s work and using it without crediting them or compensating them is theft. If Open AI made a deal with The NY Times to train its product using the papers content, which it would turn around and sell to its own customer base, that would be ethical. What Open AI and other companies like it are doing are stealing ahead of actual law that defines what they’re doing as such.
THIS. Good parents are rare. I have one friend that has somehow raised 3 amazing kids. Don’t get me wrong, they occasionally act up, but on the whole I spend more time admiring how smart and thoughtful they are for 9, 13 and 15 year olds.
I used to hate kids. I gradually got over it in the course of 40 odd years. I still hate parents and can’t control their kids, but I don’t blame the children.
In 96 I visited LA. It was 70 degrees and snowflakes falling from the sky. A waitress in Johnny Rockets said the brush fires were normal as were the mild temps during that time of year.
Grab a book or sketchpad and go to a restaurant or coffee shop. I don’t interact with anyone. I just eat good food, drink coffee, and absorb the ambiance. It makes me feel a lot less lonely while recharging myself.
That sounds like a good use. For me, my kids are dogs. If I print things out for them to color they just chew them up. Speaking of receipts, somehow one of them got ahold of one today. I chased him and he escaped under the bed, to chew at his leisure.
Hmm. I guess whenever I need to ship something, the place I go prints the label. Most recently UPS printed and packaged a Steamdeck I shipped to my nephew. If it’s going back to Amazon I just take the item to Kohls and they handle it. The receipts and more…I just show the email with the QR code if I’m returning something to Home Depot or Best Buy.
It’s crazy, I really have no need for a printer for the past …god. It’s been forever.
Why would it suggest no free will? To a certain extent, we're reacting to events that we encounter, and how we react is based on our own physiology, which drives us to make choices. Whether those events happen in the past, present, or future, elsewhere, it's when we encounter them now that matters. I think. I don't know. 🤕🤯💥
I agree, but I've changed my stance to a wait and see approach. This is what we think will happen, will probably happen, and what I'm interested most of all in, is how Lemmy.world responds once things come to pass. I've got agency here to switch to another perfectly good instance that doesn't federate with Threads, so if Lemmy.world allows social toxicity to prosper...I'll just leave. The Fediverse rocks.
Using a tool to copy someone else’s work and then profiting off that work without compensating or even attributing the source is stealing.
