  • Ah, thank you. I looked at that ages ago and forgot all about that. Since I have the page set to hide read posts it doesn't display anymore. Probably would be best to update the sidebar for oddballs like me.

    1. No social media, including medium.

Um, is that post still current? My sidebar on Politics on lemmy.world shows rule 4 as:

    1. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to “Mom! He’s bugging me!” and “I’m not touching you!” Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.

None of the other rules mention social media or Medium. Could the sidebars be different in apps from what they say on a browser? I did run into something like that on that other site back in the day.

Don't get me wrong, I think social media posts should not be allowed here, I'm just wondering if I'm not seeing what everyone else is seeing.

  • Yep. I do take comfort in the fact that the student protesters were heard to chant, “Death to tyrants." You can bet that will turn Trump up to 11even though it is the state motto, more or less.

Sic semper tyrannis more accurately translates to "thus always to tyrants." Since it supposedly originates with a statement by Brutus over Ceasar's fresh corpse, the meaning is quite clear. I'll give the students an A- on the translation. I mean, hey, who takes Latin language classes these days anyway?

  • What? SCOTUS made a good ruling supporting the ACE? Sweet!

The Supreme Court on Friday rejected a challenge to an Affordable Care Act provision that set up a panel to recommend preventive care services that insurers must provide at no cost to patients.

The court, split 6-3, ruled in favor of the Trump administration, which was defending the law, saying the task force members are lawfully appointed under the Constitution's appointments clause.

What? Trump is defending Obamacare? I know, he's like his cultists. He thinks Obamacare and the ACA are two different things and he accidentally did a good thing in defending the ACA.

The task force members are under the supervision of the health and human services secretary, a position held by Robert F. Kennedy Jr., which addresses any concerns that it is not accountable to the executive branch

Oh, now I get it. It's not a good ruling. This panel under RDK recommends preventative care that insurers have to cover 100% of the cost of. Say so long to reasonable recommendations for vaccines and annual check ups. But hey, at least insurers will have to 100% cover Ivermectin, Vitamin A and Cod Liver Oil.

  • I imagine that the long term plan is for the states to eventually declare pages about sex ed, abortion, LGBTQ+ issues, or anything else they don't like as topics that are detrimental for youth to be exposed to and to require age verification to visit them. Then, they will start buying the accumulated ID data of people visiting such pages from data brokers. Even if they don't buy up the data, the risk of having them do so would keep people from visiting those pages with is the real end game after all. Consider, if you are in Texas, would you provide your ID to visit an abortion or LGBTQ+ web site no matter how secure and private the age verification system is alleged to be?

  • Anyone with that much wealth should be charged with and found guilty of murder.

New York Penal Law Section 125.25

    Murder in the second degree

    1. Under circumstances evincing a depraved indifference to human life, he recklessly engages in conduct which creates a grave risk of death to another person, and thereby causes the death of another person; or

Hoarding wealth to the extent that the 1% does show a depraved disregard to the value of human life such that millions of people are needlessly suffering and dying from poverty.

  • Yeah, that may not work out the way they want it too. Attitudes are changing for a lot of people thanks to Trump's rampage. Hopefully, enough people will wake up and realize that the Democratic Socialists are probably the change they've been looking for.

  • Sen. Dick Durbin, an Ilinois Democrat, urged his Republican colleagues not to “turn a blind eye to the dire consequences of confirming” Bove to a lifetime position as a circuit court judge.

Turn a blind eye? This guy is willing to tell progressive and liberal judges to fuck off. The republican senators are all fully erect at the opportunity to appoint him.
