  • Hey everyone, Chaz from Cool Sci-Fi Productions Brought to Life LLC here with an exciting announcement! Our team of dedicated overpaid engineers has finally finished our first working prototype of the famous Planetary Destruction Cannon from the cult-classic 1982 film “Do Not Build Planetary Destruction Cannons!”

  • TL/DR: Elena Siegman’s vocals for the Call of Duty: Zombies soundtracks are some of my favorite metal vocals ever.

Not that Call of Duty needs more publicity obviously, but I love the story of how Kevin Sherwood and Elena Siegman got to be the names they are today behind the CoD: Zombies metal soundtrack.

Basically they were both audio engineers working on CoD: World at War and when it was decided (late into crunch time) that Zombies would be a featured bonus mode in the game, the directors wanted to add musical easter eggs into each of the maps, both the one planned for release and the 3 expansions.

Sherwood and Siegman got to work on writing the music and recording vocals respectively, but it wasn’t until they were working on the 3rd song that Sherwood decided they really ought to have some harsh, metal vocals in their metal soundtrack. He asked Siegman how they could manage that and if they would need distortion, and Siegman was like “I’ve never tried harsh vocals before, but I’m game.”

Thus, Beauty of Annihilation was born. Fast forward to later games and Siegman is a fan favorite element of the CoDZ series. My personal favorites are BoA, Coming Home, and Pareidolia

  • “Mr. Trump, you just attempted to overthrow the government of the Leader of the Free World™️, convinced the supreme court to hand you unlimited authority, and you still got elected president! What are you gonna do now?”

    “I’m going to Disneyland!”

  • Was playing Pokemon Platinum trying to catch Rotom while a friend was struggling to get his Nintendo DS to read a game cartridge. Part of catching Rotom is walking up to old electronics in a haunted building and smacking it, including an old CRT TV. Since my friend was still struggling with his DS after I caught Rotom, I walked up to the old CRT in the room we were in and thumped it with my hand on the side. His DS started working again. ¯_(ツ)

  • Love is a physical force, not just a human emotion.

Did I get that from Interstellar? Yes. Do I care? No.

Human life has meaning because we decide it does. That decision and that meaning are influenced by love, and the ensuing actions we take affect our physical environment.

Love takes energy and invokes acceleration of matter one way or the other. It’s a force.

  • I’m curious what you mean by “drop their skepticism.”

I believe the universe was created and I also believe that modern science does an incredibly good job describing the way it functions to the best of our ability. I do not believe the idea of religion is 100% at odds with science

  • Favorite? Fuck if I know

But the Gauss Cannon from DOOM 2016? Siege mode? CHUNK GUNK*\ beedleedeep BOOOOSCHHHHHGGRRRRZZZLLLKK baron gibs everywhere The ballista from DOOM Eternal got nothing on it.

Also, there were a ton of fun guns from Bulletstorm, the game about stupid but fun guns. The quad barrel shotgun stands out in my memory quite fondly.

It’s hard to forget the amazing times to be had with the duel-wielding in Wolfenstein: The New Order. Carrying two of those semi-automatic shotguns in that game meant you could liberate nazis quite enthusiastically from their skin, blood, and organs very quickly, and very cathartically. I need to replay that game.

On the subject of nazis, I can’t forget the Wunderwaffe DG-2 from Call of Duty. Yeah, I know it’s Call of Duty, but I got to watch a dozen or so nazis’ heads explode simultaneously while they were paralyzed. That was great.

I also think there’s a very strong case to be made that the greatest gun in any FPS game is the one that drives what is arguably the greatest video game ever created: the portal gun.

Thinking about multiplayer games is a slightly different beast though.

I got so much mileage out of the Cold War in Titanfall 2 - a burst fire, energy impact-grenade launcher. It was so much fun. But moreso than that, I think I loved the Double Take - a projectile-based double-barrel DMR. It took skill to get hits and even more skill to maximize damage by getting a hit with both bullets at the same time, and while flying around the map either jumping off a wall or Spider-maning around with the best-implemented grapple hook in any multiplayer game there was nothing that felt the same.

  • Too bad there’s so many of us who signed up for withholding. Tbh I’m kinda scared I’m not gonna get my refund because it’ll be deemed an “inefficient use of government funds”

  • So are you saying that having a large workforce isn’t key to keeping the rich rich? Because if you ask me losing 7 billion people would be a fairly large cutback in the workforce

  • Odds are that there are dozens of people way cooler than me who would benefit from the work that I can do in preparation for them.

Also, eternal life, like immortality in the annals of human history, is only something I can hope for. Making other people’s lives better is the only way I know for sure I can make a mark in the world.

As Bo Burnham puts it, “You pray so badly for heaven knowing any day could be the day that you die, but maybe life on Earth can be heaven. Doesn’t just the thought of it make it worth a try?”

  • Yeah that’s fair. I haven’t cared about Pokemon since the remakes of Sapphire and Ruby during which I didn’t lose a single battle. It was a cool nostalgia trip but since there was absolutely no strategy necessary I never ever wanted to go back since there’s not enough reward for the time sink; it’s just not fun imo.

  • I was really disappointed while playing this on my Deck that after a few seconds of playing with headphones the audio just dies and I can’t hear anything. Not sure why that could possibly be specific to GoW:R but it is

  • This is probably not at all what this person is like, but the way I read this made me picture someone desperate to prove that they’re cool and hip by being part of the LGBTQIA+ community. I have never heard of anyone like this, though I have heard of someone very European claiming to be native American for the street cred so I wouldn’t say no one would ever do the same with sexuality.
