  • I will have to give this a go then on Fedora because i would rather not reinstall for a third time since switching lol. I appreciate the advice.

When i last checked, the copr for yabridge was out of date but i was looking at this months ago and its also entirely possible i was looking in the wrong place or was reading information that was out of date.

Again, very much appreciate the help. Linux is still a new thing for me so any help is always welcome.

  • I have looked at Fedora jam, my issue with it is the same issue I currently have with no way to use yabridge that I could find though this may have chnaged since i last looked.

AV linux does look promising, just haven't deep dived on it yet. My concern was that its done by a single dev iirc but again i haven't done a deep dive quite yet.

And also a huge fan of reaper. Been using it for years now and I love it so very solid recommendations. I appreciate it. :)

  • Welcome brother.

Yea I switched from Windows to Fedora and aside from issues with music production, I have been happy with the switch. Its a weight off my mind knowing i dont have to worry about Windows stealing my data anymore.

I'm probably going to be switching to Ubuntu or something Ubuntu based since it seems it will be a bit easier to work with for making music. Not that Fedora hasnt been great in general but i think my specific needs like having yabridge for Windows vsts is making me consider switching.

  • My advice is start slow and dont hurt yourself in the name of fitness. Its better to take a day off if your legs really hurt so that your body has time to heal rather than "work through the pain".

And eat enough to fuel the new cardio. Doesnt do you much good if you arent giving your body enough to work with. If your trying to lose weight, slight calorie deficit of about 200 calories is typically recommended.

And listen to some music that pumps you up! Always made me love running. Good luck! You got this :)

  • Great question that I dont have an answer for. Maybe one of the foundations that supports Linux development? This is just my hope though. No idea what it would really take to maintain Firefox at this point. Maybe if it was scaled down or something it'd be ok in the hands of just the open source community as a whole but I'm not well versed in programming or development so i dont know.

I gotta try and be optimistic about this kinda stuff because i forsee a future where Google just ruins more and more of the internet and i hate the thought of that.

  • While I do want competition in the web space, its a good thing that Google could get told to stop doing stuff like this.

I dont want Mozilla to die of course but companies need to be held responsible for all the shit they pull. I'd imagine if Mozilla wasnt able to maintain firefox anymore it would fall to the open source community like they said in the article and I'd probably still use it.

No one company should own the internet.

  • I'm def a windows hater but i dont fault people for using it. Most folks arent gonna know how to install a diffrent os or even want to if what they have already works.

Use what you like and what works.

  • I work at a small company where I wear a lot of hats.

I audit chats, supervise a team of agents, answer billing and sales tickets as well as the phone for sales.

When theres downtime i also work on spreadsheets which we use to track agent performance and make tools to help us work. Thats probably the msot fun part. Its a good job.

Pay is way under what we should be getting but i like the company and they treat me well. Plus wfh so cant complain too much.

  • I think you're definitely in the majority on lemmy with this take but i agree.

I have a "smart tv" that has never even seen WiFi because i prefer having control over my hardware. My media pc is all i need. I even got a little remote for an air mouse and keyboard combo that works just fine for me.

  • Not am audiophile or anything but i do like having good quality sound for listening to stuff so ive gone down the rabbit hole a couple of times.

If the audio sounds bad on more than a few headphones or speakers, could be the phone is bad out of the box. Does happen. I had a phone that was supposed to have accidental touch protection for when your phone is in your pocket but it would still turn on and mess with stuff while in my pocket.

I would recommend you check on a few diffrent speakers to see if theres any noticeable difference in quality. Headphones vs another pair or speakers in your house vs your cars speakers. That should give you an idea if its the phone itself or your current audio devices.

  • Jellyfin was my go to as well. It was really nice to play with and finamp was as well. Once setup it was just as easy and nice to use as Spotify without all the ads and Spotify randomly playing songs after i finish a podcast episode.

  • I personally have had the best luck finding jobs on indeed. Its a popular job board for a reason but that doesnt mean that there arent a ton of postings from companies that arent actually looking for employees. Its super shitty of them but work with what ya got.

I avoid any job posting that has weird requirements like they want you to take a test or want you to add your resume through thier website instead. I dont reccomend wasting your time with that unless the job posting looks really worth it. Rarely they are. I get the most rejections from those.

What i recommend most is trying to get a job in the same field or company that a friend works at. Much easier to get hired if someone can vouch for you. Thats how i got my current job. Before that, i was stuck in security and constantly job hunting with no return on investment.

  • It will effect your health but having most "bad" foods in normal amounts every once in a while won't really hurt you. Any effect would be minimal at worst so long as you dont have preexisting health conditions. If you already have high blood pressure or a heart condition, energy drinks are probably not a good idea.

  • If you dont need the drive to be fast and want best bang for your buck storage capacity, HDD is the way to go.

If you want speed and are ok with a higher price, SSD is best. Used enterprise HDD are usually a good value. Im in the US so not sure about where to purchase exactly.

Something to consider is if the drive you are storing the os and files on are the same, using am HDD will make it slower on start up.

  • Yea you're not wrong. Kinda fed up with most smartphone manufacturers these days. Its all so restrictive. And to your point that Google is one of the only manufacturers that allows the bootloader to be relocked, thats for now. No telling what will happen in the future which is another part of my issue.

At one point i was considering making a small pc out of a raspberry pi or something to replace my phone just cause i dont like the way phone manufacturing in general is going lol.

Kinda silly but i still think about it.
