  • Ilok is a license manager used by some vst or plugins to pervent piracy. It sucks. Its not based on any DAW or anything like that.

Ive been doing research on whether it can be run using things like wine but it seems to break pretty easily if wine updates.

  • Wow now thats really cool. Im curious if this would work well with Ilok.

The main reason im not switching atm is because i make music and unfortunately some of the plugins i use require Ilok. Regardless if it does, def interesting! Thanks for sharing.

  • Yea I'd say its gonna be a while befote the idea of federated social media really takes off. I think one of the bigger reasons is just ease of use.

The federation aspect of this is kinda confusing when your first hear about and most users just want an easy experience.

Now you can say "oh just join lemmy.world and be done with it" but then comes another issue. Which is "wheres my account in this other instance?" Its not there. And it wont be there until porting accounts becomes a more integrated part of Lemmy and other federated socail medias.

I think those are the biggest things holding it back for now. I think it will catch on as more and more folks become more aware of (and care about) corporations like facebook(meta) or reddit don't care what you think and will walk all over you for a quick buck.

  • I can definitely say that I have enjoyed interacting with folks on Lemmy more than on reddit. Lemmy has felt like small subreddits even in the larger communities.

Every place on the internet is gonna have people that suck but the vast majority of my interactions here have been nice.

  • I can see your point but it more so comes off as a "rebrand". Trying to distance themselves from what they used to be so hopefully people forget all the shit they pulled.

That said, it very well may be just an attempt to shift the direction of a company but I highly doubt thats really the motive or the only intention.

  • I'd say the smear doesnt look like it was intentional as a presentation choice. It looks like you diped something in the sauce rather than smear it for the purpose of appearance.

Of course I'm no food critic and I certainly dont have an eye for presentation as a home cook. Everything on the left looks great. I think if there was more sauce in the smear it would look more intentional. Then again, sometimes less is more. Maybe leaving the smear out would've been better all together.

    Overall tho, this looks great.
