  • Thank you for chiming in!

  • But that’s a stupid way of going about it, just message the posters to let them know about tagging it with it’s proper language or just block the user. Pointlessly downvoting everything you see won’t get the message accross.

    Definitely.

I just checked on a new account on SJW, all languages are enabled by default. Probably an issue to raise to the Lemm.ee admins.

  • Seems strange. I registered an alt not so long ago and I remember being able to view all the languages from the get go.

    Maybe that's an instance-dependent thing.

If the language issue wasn’t there it wouldn’t honestly be much different from reddit.

It's interesting because a lot of non-English speaking communities complain about users downvoting their content because they don't understand it, so it seems like they have the exact opposite issues that you do.

  • Hello,

What is the current experience for a new account? I throught all languages were visible by default, and that users could opt out if they wanted?

  • To be fair, for most people it is better to just use a another instance. Instance maintenance can take quite some time

  • Agree. I moved to an instance without downvotes for this reason.

  • Suscriptions and block liste are transferred in two clicks via the settings. For jour history just mention the other account in jour bio.

  • Hopefully unhappy users will change instances and thé population will ne more spread as a result

  • That includes your private messages

Those messages are not private, there is a disclaimer about it every time you write one

  • Reddit IPO thing?

    Planned for this week

  • Agree, but easier said than done

  • Lemmy instances. The graph shows how long it takes for content to go from one instance to another, which is a few minutes at most

  • How would you deal with votes? That's a pretty common action, and having to choose every time would be tedious

  • Lemmy is probably the worst place to sell to advertisers seen how many people run adblockers around here

  • Here is a dashboard of synchronisation time between the most popular instances: https://grafana.lem.rocks/d/cdfzs0dwal3pca/federation-health-time-behind?orgId=1&var-instance=All&var-remote_instance=aussie.zone&var-remote_instance=lemmy.blahaj.zone&var-remote_instance=lemmy.ml&var-remote_instance=lemmy.nz&var-remote_instance=reddthat.com&var-remote_instance=sh.itjust.works&var-remote_instance=slrpnk.net&var-remote_software=All&from=now-12h&to=now

As you can see, the only three instances synchronizing in more than 5 minutes are

    • reddthat, based in Australia
    • lemmy.nz, in New Zealand
    • aussie.zone, Australia too
    • feddit.ch, closing at the end of the month

For the 3 first instances, this is due to lag and centralization of communities on LW. Moving communities away from LW would actually help solving that issue (in parallel, Reddthat is planning to open an EU server to reduce the lag)
