  • It depends. I’m atheist/agnostic, but I have a lot of respect for certain core religious philosophies. Buddhism, Sikhism, and the teachings of Jesus (note that I did not say “Christianity”) in particular.

If a persons particular practice has an ethical, humanist core I can accept that. If it encourages any kind of blind appeal or deference to authority, I cannot. I can tolerate some mysticism and mythology, but I cannot tolerate unethical teaching, dogma, or behavior.

  • The alternative is “drop bombs”.

Rounding up leaders and putting them on trial seems like a more civilized international approach than engaging in the same bloodthirsty, explosive, surprise-murder that is literally the whole problem here.

  • I know there decent alternatives to SalesForce, but I’m not sure what you’d replace Slack with. Teams is far worse in every conceivable way and I’m not sure if there’s anything else out there that isn’t already speeding down the enshittification highway.

  • Efficient ambient-light ray tracing (like Lumen) is amazing. It contributes massively to making environments feel believable and immersive.

Path traced reflections and shadows are a indefensible waste of processing power (for now).

Upscaling and frame generation are crutches that are actively harming gaming right now. From disocclusion artifacts to unsightly “sharpening” distortions to developers/publishers skipping optimization because they expect DLSS/FSR will pick up the slack, it’s a cool thing that has unfortunately resulted in games being worse all around.

  • Why don’t we have laws that bar discrimination for anything whatsoever that isn’t related to a person’s own actions? The problem is that we keep creating “protected categories”, which implies that we are okay with discrimination until a particular brand of it rises to a critical level of crisis and public outcry.

Treating people poorly based on things out of their control is deeply unethical.

  • The old fascist playbook.

Use violence against the out group. If the out group protests peaceful, falsely claim it’s violence to increase your own violence. If the out group fights back, use it as an excuse to bring all the violence you have to bear while painting your attack as an act of “defense”.

  • Psilocybin appears to rewire your brain. It has long been known that guided trips can have very long lasting benefits. This study includes therapy, which is critical for cementing the long term benefits of psilocybin treatment.

  • You have a choice between a room temperature Pepsi and being hit in between the eyes with a hammer repeatedly, and while I am also sick of this stupid binary choice, I don’t keep voluntarily choosing the hammer. This is truly a “we’ve tried nothing and are all out of ideas” scenario.
