I think it's mostly because it's a SIM only thing and anyone can send off for one.

Unfortunately I think the age of computer literacy came and went. Phones don't even seem to want you to know that a file is a thing.

Yeah, discoverability is a massive issue on the Play store. If it doesn't bring Daddy Google 30% of whatever they shovel through in ad money or mtx, then you won't see it.

I don't know if they still do it, but some mobile internet providers in the UK would filter things out unless you sent them your ID to unblock it.

Not sure it's a great solution, but better than having to provide your ID to every random website out there.

Me and my sister definitely had them in the early 80s. Kids are stupid, and the alternative is you strap them in a buggy if they can't be trusted to walk.
