  • Home Assistant compatibility doesn't mean it won't communicate with the cloud. If you want to decloud your robot, try Valetudo

  • It mutes pre and post ads, it unfortunately cannot skip them.

  • They are stored until the instance admin(s) choose to purge the community. Then all posts from the community will be purged from the instance.

  • I'm sorry, I don't understand your question.

  • Baring technical issues, deletions and moderation are federated. The only thing that isn't is media removal, but there are tools to automate the process https://github.com/db0/fedi-safety

  • I think Audi only want their name on the car if it has their engine in it. Also I'm not sure how much Audi is going to take over Sauber engineering on the chassis side in 2026.

  • Unfortunately no: only new posts are federated.

The only exception is when an instance federates with a community for the first time, the instance will fetch the last few posts from this community. But in your example, since lemmy.film no longer exist, no instance will ever be able to fetch last posts from !moviesandtv@lemmy.film.

  • Instances copy images locally to avoid overloading remote instances. For instance I have 16GB of pictures and videos stored even though I only posted a few pictures.

  • I agree, but that still requires a lot of research and thoughts on the ideal zRAID layout.

  • Each Lemmy instance keeps a copy of posts and contents made in communities followed by its users, so even though an instance is decommissioned, the content lives on on other instance.

For example my instance was off for a month (I was moving out, setting up my NAS was my last priority) and during this time my posts and comments were still available on other instances.

As for users unable to login on decommissioned instances, unfortunately all they can do is create an account on another instance.

  • I wouldn't recommend TrueNAS SCALE to everyone and certainly not as someone's first NAS OS. Sure, the GUI is great and its lack of flexibility prevents users from shooting themselves in the foot, but it requires lots of thoughts on zRAID settings and apps get complicated once you look outside the community-supported ones.

  • Is plex somewhat simple to setup and is there other software I should look at?

Yes, it's rather simple to install. I don't know where your "family videos" come from, but if you want to automate the download process you can take a look at Radarr and Sonarr (also known as the Servarr stack)

  • Weird. Have you tried removing 0 0 at the end of your fstab entry? This option is not supported on recent NFS versions

  • I set up iSponsorBlockTV on my NAS: it connects to the YouTube app on your TV (as would your smartphone app) and mutes ads and skips sponsored segments.

Initial setup is a bit arcane, but once it's done it works perfectly!

  • What error message do you have (if any) when you try to mount your folder (sudo mount /home/pi/mount/NAS)

  • Yeah, I was hoping that Aston would give Jessica Hawkins a run after the announcement of her being their latest test driver, but they elected not to.

I hope we will see more opportunities for female drivers with them being part of F1 teams starting next season. At least that's what Danica Patrick has been asking for.

  • I agree, I hesitated to edit the headline (something along the lines of "List of rookies taking part to Abu Dhabi GP FP1") as I don't know if it is allowed on /c/formula1

  • Humanity will likely be over because of global warming before AGIs are a thing.

  • Why would AI end capitalism? If previous centuries told us anything, it is that in a capitalist world more productivity doesn't equate to more leasure time or better wages.

I wish I'm wrong, but I can't see any other issue than companies using AI to increase profits.
