  • Do remember- it really is trying to help. Negative self talk really is a useful social animal trait that's just going a bit haywire, so figure out what its trying to do and be nice to it.

Also, pain can be experienced first as emotional distress, especially if its pain you've lived with for a long time, and its just hurting extra bad.

Sometimes its easier to do self-care when you picture it as outside of yourself.
So when you're really feeling like shit, try acknowledging its concerns, rational or irrational, and then tell your little red cat its doing a good job and its safe to take a nap.

It isn't a magic fix, but its an actual process to go through. And that feels better than just stewing.

  • Happy cartoons!

I'm sure you've heard of Bluey by now. Its so good, wholesome, and heartfelt. Everyone's watching, regardless of age.

Here's one of my favorites for happy feels: Kipper the Dog
Its a Pre-K show that's just super chill and pleasant. Feels like a warm blanket and cocoa. This one is definitely more for children, but its ok to indulge your inner child and tell it that things are okay.

For a more sophisticated palette, Hilda is the most criminally underrated animated mainstream cartoon in recent memory... that somehow got a full run regardless!
Three seasons and a movie on Netflix. Its beautiful and kid appropriate but definitely for all ages, and pretty damn serious a lot of the time. But its still rather uplifting in how a lot of things aren't problems, because Hilda is so spirited and determined in a way you can truly believe in.

My little Pony, new and old, really does the trick for me, but its not for everyone, of course. Pound Puppies and A Pup Named Scooby Doo also hit that vibe, though of the old shows mentioned, its probably the best written. (Never got into Care Bears, but it could probably work too, if you're looking for Sunshine and Rainbows)

  • Technically, random race/class/etc upon a new life is really more common with Roguelites. (You kinda acknowledge that, but roll with me. Trying to be facetious with the Roguelike snobbery thing, not sure if I pulled it off lol)

Traditional Roguelikes usually let you pick what kind of fresh Hell you're setting yourself up for.

...So maybe this is Roguelike rules.

You fuckin chose your species, religion, and class.
Just not how much food you get to eat, what books you get the chance to read (without tremendous effort on your part) and when you will die.

Oh, sweet heavens, this is so much worse! We did this to ourselves

  • Yeah, it is a good song, and I get why people love the movie, but its not one of my personal most favorite things ever.

Which is why its good I didn't have it ruined by the meme- I can still go watch the movie and enjoy it with people who really are that into it and have a good time.

I love a good fanwatch with super nerds, (recently watched Revolutionary Girl Utena with my sibling who is a huge fan, and am trying to get through a reading of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms because of a friend who is a big fan, but that's gonna take some time) and I feel bad for Frozen fans, because one of their favorite things has a bit of a stigma attached. I really like My Little Pony and considering the reputation of G4, I get it.

  • Generally, this. I feel like its my fault if a joke on the Internet is getting too old.

I'm pretty proud of the fact that I self-moderated my internet use so well, I never learned the words to "Let it Go" until someone decided it was good to start playing it as holiday music at my workplace a while back.

And i that case, I got paid to get frostrolled, or whatever it was called

(Still though, there's limits to this kind of thinking. its a useful coping mechanism for dumb shit, but a therapist did point out that its actually pretty unhealthy with genuinely abusive situations. So be cognizant of blame assignment!)

  • Depends, really. Some just feel squicky about breaking copyright law.

NGL I kinda feel a bit obligated to be extra careful out of deference to a relative's relationship to a lawyer, haha.

But in general, I try to conduct myself in the model of the ideal world I want to live in, if I can.

In the best world, there's no piracy because everyone gets their fair dues, and users get fair access to their purchased goods. But I also ain't judging others who do pirate or do other stuff with their own things, because we definitely don't live in that world, and corporations do not deserve to have a monopoly on access to media like that.

And, really, its just not right. As a fan of classic, old games, I can't respect not technically pirating entirely, when it means the loss of amazing games. Like the amazing 3DS Virtual Boy emulation projects! Or just soooo many classic, otherwise lost adventure games.

I'm probably not going to wind up playing those, but the world is worse if not for people technically pirating.

  • rule

    Jump
  • A game about the hover boots from OoT if they were the shit instead of just involuntary ice skates.

Like, everyone loves your kicks. The bad guy loves your kicks. They're fun to use, so the player loves your kicks

  • I mean, I would unironically dig that aesthetic updated with the bluejeans meme. The coat could be super comfy if it didn't get paired with aweful breeches/bloomers or whatever you call those janky ass knickers.

...But the meme would probably just Jeg up the lawn and wig

  • I actually paid someone to rip my WiiU BotW for me years ago because I like being legit legit, but most people either feel like its morally 100% fine to download a copy if they bought one, or don't even know that its technically not legal.

Ripping your own ROMs tends to put your system at risk of bricking or being banned from online play. Its just not a desirable thing to do, so fans who care enough about the game to see it run at q higher quality or with lovingly crafted mods are very likely the ones who already purchased the game and are downloading a new copy.

I would love to see Yuzu run a poll to see how many people already purchased the game. Even if its anecdotal, maybe it would prove a point that people are crying out for more content and will go to illegal means to get it

  • Whatever happened to internet etiquette?
You (or the person commissioning the book) ask before you do this kinda thing!

Etsy is supposed to carry the torch for that kinda small community vibe of mature adults making money from their side business.

These folks deserve to get a bit flamed, because this feels like 2009 drama we should have collectively figured out forever ago

  • I just want a phone designed to make spoken word more audible in noisy environments, so I don't have to use some sketchy app when I'm trying to hear a poorly balanced podcast over the stove fan while cooking.

This just sounds like q feature that I've literally never seen anyone ask for outside of that or movies, basically

  • I choose to try not to pirate, and thus this kinda thing absolutely pisses me off because this is so disingenuous, because I dig into the nitty gritty of how to do all this stuff legit.

Randomizers alone make Nintendo games in particular so much more alive, and all but require the use of ripping software and quite often emulators.
These emulators can make even current titles look even more beautiful and play more smoothly than their native platform, too.

Yeah, people are going to pirate using this stuff, but its wrong to treating the tools themselves as being inherently bad. They are quite often used by people who care very much about these games, and do give fair financial support to Nintendo.
