  • Maybe I'm weird, and I am open to that as a possibility, but I don't see low birthrates as a problem. I feel like the human race could actually benefit from a reduced population. If the population was to reduce by half or more because people did not want to procreate and did so voluntarily and of their own free will, many of our climate change issues would be reduced and might even reverse without changing anything else.

Unless and until the human population gets down to two billion or less, there is little to no danger of a non-man made disaster wiping us out.

  • Rogers primary campaign ad was weird. He said he's running for the US Senate but instead of talking about how he will work for Michigan, he complained about Joe Biden. So your intent is to obstruct rather than govern? How is that appealing to anyone?

  • While I doubt that things are actually more dangerous nowadays than before, Cruz has been very vocal about selling the narrative that things are getting worse. If he feels like his life is in danger, he needs to work to make it safer for everyone instead of just himself!

  • I am of the opinion that closed-minded thinking is only part of the issue. The other part is there are well financed interst groups who work hard to create and encourage division in order to prevent regular folks from working together for a common cause.

The reason is simple: convince people to fight amongst themselves and they will be too busy to notice how much they are being ripped off by the tiny handful of rich people at the top.

  • I see variations of this argument all over the place. The thing is, if you mistreat an entire population of people for several decades and they get the opportunity to repay that in kind, who could blame them? At some point the violence needs to end. The people of Israel should understand that. Unfortunately, it seems they do not.

  • Unfortunately, as we have already seen within the Republican party, threats work! If you are a secretary of state right now, you have two choices:

    A) upholding Article 14 sec 3 because Trump engaged in an insurrection and is disqualified from ever holding elected office. But by doing so you, your coworkers, and your friends and family will be having to endure constant protests, verbal abuse, and death threats for the foreseeable future
    or
    B) Not doing that, hoping that he loses again (as he should), and the crazy people mostly leave you alone.

Which one would you pick? The real answer is probably not as easy as simply following the law.
I know which one I hope I would choose, but I can't say for sure I would do it.

edited: because I was not paying enough attention and wrote the wrong job title. (oops)

  • We have two buildings on our property with mini split heat pumps. Both are very quiet. They can be a bit noisy indoors if you turn the fan above the medium setting. It's basically silent on the low fan setting. Low is plenty for both heating and cooling.

  • Depends on local laws of their state, but yes in most states you lose the right to vote while in prison and some places, like Florida, make it difficult to get your right to vote back. Not sure if the prison sentence being for a state or federal crime makes a difference or not.

  • For me, I started thinking about the cost and the smell every time I had one. I quit cold turkey a few weeks later and felt grossed out every time I had one after that. I quit in 2009 and haven't had a cigarette since 2010.

Cigarettes smell really disgusting to me now.
