  • That door is essentially a piece of hollow plywood. Why not buy an actual piece of plywood and cut it to the size of the door frame? Modifying the frame or a hollow door is going to take far longer.

I feel your pain though, my workshop isn't square. I came to understand this when I replaced the roof panels which are cut perfectly square. 200mm gap at one end of the roof 😂

  • What does that say about our society? Can you imagine taking the same attitude as a scientist? Nothing would ever work because it relies on foundational truth and integrity. The reason lying in politics is acceptable is because the citizenry is allowing it through the ballot box. These idiots can't do science or politics but they have the same voting rights as everyone else.

  • Vehicle control systems are overwhelmingly programmed in C, mostly from graphical design tools such as MATLAB Simulink via an automatic process. These are real time control systems which are quite different to an interrupt based operating system such as Linux. The many individual controllers must work in concert according to a strict architecture definition and timing schedule that defines the functionality of the vehicle. It's not at all like a PC or phone, whose OS become irrelevant over time, with respect to their environment of other systems. The vehicle environment is the same environment that we inhabit i.e. the one with gravity, friction, charge and the other SI units. This is slowly changing with advent of self driving but, yeah.

  • How come we dedicate so many resources to rescuing one thrill seeker in the mountains but virtually no resources to people having other types of medical emergencies? Not saying we shouldn't do that, all life is precious, but some is more precious than others it seems.

You know it's going to be a wild ride when Bitch McConnell approves a SC ruling. This guy is really the bogeyman and harbinger of doom for US politics. Our equivalent would be Jacob Rees Mogg, who worked tirelessly to deliver us from the European Union. The root problem, as ever, is old people voting against their own interests.

  • This is the pill that seems impossible to swallow for society at large. We have built a civilization on the assumption that we can keep adding more cars. I checked the manifestos of the recent UK general election candidates, only one explicitly mentioned provision of cycling infrastructure and that party won virtually no support. We are sleepwalking into an ecological collapse, with old conservative people leading the way.

  • Anglophones do be loving their cars but the real problem is cyclists riding on pavements. Have you got any idea how dangerous that is? Only the other day I took a picture of my pumpkin spiced latte and caused a multiple pedestrian pile up.
