  • I do the same to people who refuse to follow specifications they agreed to follow.

There is a slight satisfaction to get back at them for continually delivering much lower quality than is required.

But it really is to cover me. Because, it always happens, later in the future that edge case comes up, and everything breaks. And management is ready to blame me. But then I show them that I tested the edge case before the conclusion of the project. And that programmer ignored my emails, and that I told management these edge cases weren't covered. But then management signed off on calling it complete. And suddenly management is no longer red with fury. And they usually won't allow me time to fix it. So the can gets kicked down the road until the next time that edge case fails.

  • I'd prefer some other state to get it than Texas. If Texas is going to deny federal money for unemployment and for healthcare, then Texas doesn't deserve federal money for other good projects.

And this is coming from someone in Texas who would benefit from it.

Texas GOP governor Greg Abbott has told state employees to try to avoid federal money because it might come with strings that require treating non rich and non whites as human.

Remember when Greg Abbott had a tantrum and basically shut down the Texas-Mexico border to most road traffic and fucked over all the rest of the US who was depending on products to come from Mexico?

Let Texas feel what it would be like to secede.

  • True.

That's why consciousness is "magical," still. If neurons ultra-basically do IF logic, how does that become consciousness?

And the same with memory. It can seem to boil down to one memory cell reacting to a specific input. So the idea is called "the grandmother cell." Is there just 1 cell that holds the memory of your grandmother? If that one cell gets damaged/dies, do you lose memory of your grandmother?

And ultimately, if thinking is just IF logic, does that mean every decision and thought is predetermined and can be computed, given a big enough computer and the all the exact starting values?

  • Good!

    Now do that much again!

Get people spending their limited paychecks on goods the economy is producing, instead of paying interest to some misers. In the 1%-er's bank, it will just sit and effectively be taken out of circulation and the economy.

  • I vote for CasaOS based on the videos I've seen of it. I haven't actually done any self hosting stuff myself, yet.

Laptops are cool servers because it has a builtin battery that usually lasts at least an hour, especially if the screen is off. You don't have to worry about UPS batteries that give less than 10 minutes and have a horrible beeping sound.

  • That's pretty awesome.

Wish I could use this to fix the same issue I have in Windows with office VPNs.

Took me a while to remember the naming convention means "resolve daemon" and not "resolved"-past tense of resolve. Doh.
