  • Most interactions I've had here have been very nice and friendly. I see pointless fighting sometimes, but I mostly avoid such posts and communities anyway.

I guess what I was going for is that there's still tons of good stuff.

  • OP must be my neighbour

  • If it's all of these links and just on Memmy, it's probably an issue with the app. I use Voyager and they work fine. You could ask about that at !memmy@lemmy.ml or file an issue at their GitHub if someone hasn't already.

  • I think both of those are still used extensively.

  • The other results had iFunny and 9GAG watermarks on them and/or were even more deepfried with compression.

But somehow, the JPEG artifacts give this one a nice cozy feel. Seeing this ancient meme again was like meeting an old friend.

  • Oh, so it was the shower, then?

  • I don't think that matters at this point. Flatpak is widespread and Canonical can't possibly expect the linux crowd to choose the proprietary alternative. I could see snap being the one, had they just handled it differently.

  • Okay, I have a new link. Let's hope it works.

  • Thanks, this seems a much less painful solution.

  • US was enabled from the beginning so it wasn't that, then.

  • Thanks!

Do you need to specifically add my account

I'd hope not, but it's starting to look so. Man, I thought the link would do the job.

I can add you and anyone else who wants to, but I'm not sure if I can get all 20 people for this anymore.

  • Yeah, I think I won't wait for the Play release to happen anymore because Google experience has been nothing but a bunch of hoops they want me to jump through.

  • Older. Not sure if it was on me or on Google, but it works now.

  • What region? I'll try to add a bunch of countries to the test.

  • I will. I initially had trouble producing apks that my phone won't refuse to install, so I went for play in case that'd fix it.

  • Was that a long ago? They seem to enforce it for me.

  • The 20 testers is specifically a play store requirement, so it has to go through it.

There same build is on github too, it just doesn't count towards Google's requirement.

  • Well, let's just say that I doubt you'll be able to sell this idea to instance admins.

However, you can become the change you wish to see yourself. You can start scraping today and create your own dumps that way; the apis are yet to be closed.

  • So you fear that instance admins would start closing their apis. It would've been real helpful if that was on the on the original post.

The api is accessible and I don't see that changing because it is, y'know, required for federation. If you want backups, you can start scraping or host a private instance that subscribes to everything you want to save.

Releasing dumps the way you described would be a massive burden on admins, or even completely infeasible.
