  • This isn’t the first time I’ve seen criticisms of her leadership. I remember something coming out about her being completely unprepared like a fish out of water when she first took over USAID, but I’ve had trouble reconciling that against her impressive public appearances where she comes off as competent, empathetic, and extremely knowledgeable.

The most recent pieces have been from totally shit sources, anyone have an article from a respectable outlet that goes into the criticisms in more detail? As skeptical as I am about this newspaper’s credibility, none of the examples seem too out there.

  • I don’t know much about them yet, but the Muslim-Jewish Antifascism Front (or MuJew Antifa) is a pretty awesome name.

  • Yuuup I’ve been doing that constantly for the last couple months. Like, what the fuck does a video game have to do with all this? Ohhhh…

Doesn’t help that I had never heard of Stellantis until the strikes.

  • Can’t forget the Thomas Riker!

  • Bummer. That’s some weak and feckless megacorp bullshit. Just like something Stewart would cover, which is why this show was such a great power move. And yet? Infinite profit over all else, so never mind.

Look at John Oliver, he talks shit about HBO constantly. Do they care? Nope, because he has more Emmys than anyone could know what to do with. Respect your talent and reap the rewards. Pretty basic stuff, Apple.

  • Yeah surprisingly similar actually. Israeli police are somehow even more flagrant and overt about it though, they openly defend their use of racial profiling and are even less restrained in how they choose to dole out violence. In Israel and the occupied territories, Arab Israelis and Palestinians are targets of suspicion, by default, in a pretty similar way to how black and brown Americans are targeted by authority as a matter of daily life.

  • Any of the books narrated by Peter Kenny in the Culture series by Iain M. Banks. Banks’ books are my favorite Sci-Fi, and Kenny does such an impressive job of doing an understated reading. He “does the voices” really well so you can tell the characters apart, but it’s all very subtle and easy to listen to. He also does the “techno-babble” so damn well, and captures Banks’ sense of humor perfectly.

I think there’s only one of the Culture books that he didn’t narrate, can’t remember which at the moment.

  • Israeli police are truly awful in my experience. They are not the Army, so that’s an important distinction, but they are some of the worst people I’ve crossed paths with in Israel. They don’t need an excuse to be racist and violent, that’s pretty much what they’re there for.

I once called the police on a group of people who were harassing a woman. When the police showed up, all they did was start cracking up, like legit rolling on the ground laughing, because the group of people doing the harassing turned out to be the latest class of police trainees who had just graduated. I guess they were celebrating by harassing a random woman? Needless to say, no one was held accountable, and I was told if I wasn’t American they would have arrested me.

  • Thanks for sharing! I’m sure it wasn’t easy to get out, I’ve got nothing but respect. Those lifestyles are often prisons for life. I was lucky to figure out atheism very young, and with the surprising support of my family, but I know that’s not usually how it goes.

  • Yeah, this is way more serious than people realize. The extremist Christian evangelical movement has a disproportionate amount of influence over Israel and how the world views it. They fund schools, museums, archaeological digs and many other things, but with an obvious bias, and often not in the best interest of anyone but those who share their apocalyptic worldview.

It’s pretty wild, and can come off as a bit conspiratorial, once you realize that much of the American support for Israel is for the purpose of preparing for a world-ending war and the resurrection of a mythical character who lives in a collection of short stories.

  • I'm aware of trump cards in card games. I'd just never heard "comes up trumps" as a turn of phrase. Made no sense to me in the context of a tv show.

  • Yup, that’s about the same time I started not volunteering anything about my Jewishness to anyone who didn’t already know. Based on the genuinely alarming shit I’ve heard from my neighbors over the last few years, I guess we’re back to hiding.

I’m also way more afraid of white right-wingers than of any Palestinian-Americans. Even in my bright blue state, I can’t help but feel the hate all around.

As for Palestinians, I feel nothing but solidarity and sympathy. If anyone should understand what they’ve been going through over the decades, ironically, it’s us Jews.

I wish I didn’t have to say this, but targeting civilians is wrong. Full stop.

  • Shame

  • Saw it, moved on. A few posts later it hit me and I straight up cackled. Had to scroll back up to show my appreciation. Quality shitpost. (Is that an oxymoron?)

  • Atlantis is top notch! Hits its stride early and stays pretty strong throughout. Lots of very familiar faces come and go. So much fun.

  • And people wonder why I’m paranoid about privacy…

  • Yes!! This cut away made me crack a huge grin. Love this guy.
