  • I really wish people would drop this idea that Trump and Musk are stupid. They say and do stupid things, and I'm not claiming they're some god-tier intelligence playing 5D chess, but they are just so obviously not dumb, and thinking of them as dumb gives them useful cover for their malice. Trump in particular uses that cover to incredible effect.

  • That's exactly right. Except you left out all the lucrative insider trading they enjoy during 1-3. And just in case anyone tries to pull the wrong idea from any of this, the Republicans are even worse than that.

  • Democrat Al Green protested Trump's speech to Congress, would not relent, and was removed by security. Then from what I understand, there was a vote to censure him (meaningless slap on the wrist in today's politics) and 10 members of his own party shamefully voted with the Republicans to have him punished.

  • I think you are essentially projecting (and I hope you don't read that as an attack, I don't intend one). I think because it seems impossible for you yourself to ignore this stuff, you're making incorrect assumptions about others. But maybe yours is more accurate and mine is less, I'd certainly prefer your version!

One Trump voter that I know - she's been pretty shocked by some of the things I've shown her post-election - but she has also told me that she's not watching much news or keeping up right now. And she falls into the "merely foolish" Trump voter category, not even the hateful kind. My sense is that the vast majority of important info that's coming out, she is either tuned out from, or rationalizes as "can't be that bad". And I bet that is exceedingly common right now.

This is powerful stuff, I mean it put this guy in the White House twice despite the mountains of evidence of his bankrupt morals, bankrupt businesses, outright scams, and straight up felonies. If you think they can't successfully cover for him post-election, I just fundamentally disagree. Though it's interesting to hear even Fox has been critical, I would really love to be wrong here.

The other thing this leaves out is that the kind of personality who is drawn to Trump is very often the kind of personality that cannot handle admitting fault for any reason. So we have that lovely human tendency to try to overcome, too.

But yeah, agreed that the problems might get big enough that it becomes impossible to out-propaganda reality.

  • I think people are really naive about the kinds of stories and evidence Trump voters are seeing post election.

Trump voters consume media that makes him look good, that's why they voted for him. It is impossible to make Trump look good without enormous efforts toward deception. Therefore Trump voters consume media that successfully lies to them, and in major ways.

Before the election, that media convinced those people that he isn't an obviously amoral con man, and even more incredibly, that our country needed him to save us. That is a miracle of deception - a nat 20, a coup de grace. And what, we think that media just stops after the election? The disinformation never, ever stops. Real world consequences will reach some, but not nearly enough to counteract that.

  • Uh, sure sounds like only/overwhelmingly his supporters watched it and were polled. It's almost impossible to find anything that 76% percent of all Americans approve of.

Edit: if I would have read even a little, I'd have seen that others made this point. Apologies.

  • Thank you. Stated goals and actual goals for these people are always entirely independent, if they align it's just coincidence / convenience. People need to stop being so credible and debating this shit on its stated terms, fascists don't debate in good faith.

  • That, plus it seems very likely that he and friends are just manipulating the market to trade on the predictable moves he's causing. Ya know, the kinda stuff that earned Musk some mild hand slaps and theatrical pearl clutching (in addition to giant financial benefits) in recent years.

  • Not to mention every ladder-climbing prick who changes positions in those orgs' mid to upper levels has to make some big splash in their new role, so they can scheme their way to the next one. AKA each of these decision-making dickheads are incentivized to blow shit up with each new role, and with the express intention of not being there when the chickens come to roost. Seen it quite often, firsthand.

Such an idiotic way to run the biggest coordinations of human effort on the planet, but HEY what the fuck do I know? Stolid, predictable leadership with a commitment to improving outcomes for all stakeholders? Wouldn't that mean shareholders would do a little less well? Those gaudy yachts and mansions don't buy themselves...

  • Feel like saying more? I have a touchscreen laptop and have never built such a habit. Being honest I have trouble imagining how moving my hands off the trackpad and keys can feel efficient. What kinda stuff feels better?

  • Your vote means nothing

I was with you until this, and maybe this is what people take issue with. Our vote fucking DOES mean something because if more folks voted against Trump, things would be a LOT less terrible.

They would still be unacceptably shitty though, no argument there, and I've been trying to show people for a long time myself that "Dems & Repubs vs. us" is a much more accurate description of the conflict than "us dems vs. us repubs".

Even so, our vote matters a fucking lot when the Republican half of the regime is doing this kind of damage. I can't really imagine anyone coherently arguing otherwise unless they are also arguing for immediate armed revolution. Voting matters, more of it would help with the far-reaching horrible outcomes of this administration in particular.

  • Bit heavy-handed on the moderation around the topic for my tastes. Too similar a stance to corporate media channels that remain forcibly anodyne no matter the significance of a topic. It wasn't egregious, to be clear, it was a measured response, but .world has positioned themselves as too consolidated and too "safe" for what I want from the Fediverse. You can probably find stuff on YePowerTrippinBastards or whatever the comm is but I'm on mobile and doing other stuff lol.
