I barely had patience for liberals at the start of the conflict. There's a certain amount of grace to give when a major event happens and people are trying to piece out the background after not paying attention for years. Now? That doesn't exist anymore. Liberals are simply choosing to remain ignorant at this point when it comes to Russia-Ukraine.
These stupid crackers think we're all Chinese anyway. Even if they made the distinction mentally they wouldn't actually conduct their hate crimes with any accuracy.
COVID hate crimes targeted Filipinos, Koreans, Vietnamese, etc.
There are plenty of anarchists doing good on-the-ground work. And there are plenty of communists who are terminally online. As much as we make fun and get frustrated with anarchist analysis and their lack of historical knowledge, I don't think we can characterize either movement as a whole of spending the majority of their time dunking in comment sections. In my own experience with anarchists and other left tendencies there is not nearly as much infighting as you would be led to believe online. Plenty of people are doing the work and have their eye on the larger contradiction, which is opposing the bourgeois state.
The anticapitalist movement is still reemerging in the West after decades of McCarthyism and it's going to take time for people to become more learned about socialist history and ideology. Communism is getting more popular, albeit slowly. I personally think that the popularity of anarchism in the West is a phase that is temporary. Experience will lead people to Marxism.
Conditions in America are currently worse than the Great Depression by pretty much every metric related to working people. And the media is blatantly pretending it's not happening.
Learning about communism has made me more aware of the ugliness of capitalist reality. But if anything, that awareness has brought more serious obstacles to improving my mental health. It's just harder to enjoy things for what they are.
It's totally a respectable choice to let politics take a backseat for periods. People can only do what's in their mental and emotional capacity to do so. Human beings simply were never meant to be aware of so much information at once. Especially regarding oppression.
I recently hung out with friends that I hadnt seen in a while and they were saying some of the most ignorant, chauvanistic shit. Really nice people who consider themselves progressive. They just lack the information to understand why a thought of theirs is just a racist regurgitation that they picked up from a source they can't even remember. They can't remember the context of how those beliefs entered their worldview.
It was a startling reminder of just how big the task is of educating people out of a colonizers mindset. We can't get tired of it.
Right. Liberalism is the enemy. But if someone isn't a member of the state, active agent of fascism or a capitalist then we should see them as temporarily embarrassed comrades.
Honestly, if nothing else, I hope liberals are learning how to actually phrase questions in a good faith manner. As a former liberal myself, so many of my questions in the beginning were phrased in such an anglocentric way that just assumed Western ideals as the default and it put everyone else on the defensive. So of course I got dunked on or people assumed I was trolling. Really, I was just ignorant af.
