  • He is my MPP. I’ve been very impressed with him. I’ve emailed him a few times voicing concerns, and each time he (or somebody from his staff) has addresses my emails, point by point, and have been very open to discussions. While i haven’t agreed with his stance on all points, i have very much appreciated the two way dialog, and the time that was taken to craft the responses (they were not short replies).

  • My ability to close a door and sit, focus, and develop in silence makes me not only more productive, but also happier. I’ve done some of the best work of my career over these past 3+ years. I used to wear headphones 50+ hours a week, now it’s only when i go for a walk every morning.

  • You should read the book Radical Candour. It will help you provide critical feedback in a respectful and empathic way. Saying “as a fellow dev…” is not a hall pass to light somebody’s work on fire, crap on their tech stack decisions, and claim your opinion is fact.

Strong opinions are good. I appreciate strong opinions. I have many of my own. And i know you’re excited for this app and that it’s become a daily staple for you so you want it to succeed. But React Native is not a bad technology stack. In its nearly 10 years it has evolved and improved dramatically. Huge apps are written in React Native. I bet you use, or have used, some of them and don’t even know.

Technology is a tool. You can write great software and equally bad software in any language or stack. I’ve used a lot of terrible iOS apps, and I’m sure some of them were written in Swift. A language or tech stack is not inherently bad, and claiming such is not constructive feedback, it’s being an asshole.

    Don’t be an asshole.

  • A few idears:

    • Artemis: He was Apollo’s twin brother, and Memmy feels to be the spiritual equivalent.
    • Pluto: you still have the space theme, but nobody can agree on what the fuck it is, so it just keeps going on about its thing
    • Threaddit: i just think it’s kinda funny.
    • Voyager: space themed, and kinda fits what the is whole thing is about and how it came to be
  • I’m concerned the BoC is eating gummies for the first time. Me thinks they should increase lead times with each subsequent rate hike, lest the compound impact hits all at once, which it already will. I’m wondering if this is all going to slam into a wall, forcing them to rapidly and dramatically slash rates.

  • You should read The Five Love Languages. This is an actual thing. Different people express and receive love differently. “Acts of Kindness” is one of them. My partner loves when i do things, and i know this, so i do it because i know it makes her feel loved. And that’s hot.
