  • Yeah, that’sa decent middle ground between people like me who prefer text in most cases and people who prefer voices, but then I just end up hearing the first word of each sentence as I read and it ends up like, “The… A… My… Who…. What… how…. When… over….” Which is less than ideal. I’m more accepting of listening to voice lines in “movie games” though, like Horizon or Detroit.

  • I feel the opposite. I am not a fan of fully voice acted games in most situations because I can read infinitely faster than the voice actors talk, and half my time is spent either sitting there waiting for them to finish talking or mashing a reading a single sentence at a time. I was very disappointed when Disco Elysium didn’t include a way to disable voice acting with their definitive edition update, instantly made for a worse game to me.

  • Ansible was indeed used by Orson Scott Card in his Ender’s series, about 20 or so years after it was first coined by Le Guin. Funny to think of someone reading such good novels as Ursula’s and still coming out of it a bigoted asshole.

  • Oh I’m sure, that word isn’t used for a lot of other things. It’s neat how much anarchist and socialist lore is hidden inside of FOOS and Linux tech terminology, including the word Ansible. So refreshing compared to closed source devs unironically naming their products after murderous AI or what have you.

  • I’m not sure if it’s an update they did, but immediately on launch I got significantly better image quality despite having FSR turned on, but my framerate was a bit iffy. Good enough for me in such a slow paced game so I didn’t mind, but when I got on yesterday the image quality was waaay lower and my framerate was way more stable. Even turning FSR to quality it looks worse than it did before. I wonder if FSR wasn’t working properly at first, or why else it could have gotten worse image quality with higher framerates on the same settings.

  • I’d be more interested in if they’re doing proper rewilding and reforesting, or if this is more of the same monoculture tree farm crap we’ve seen for 20 years.

Edit: Looks like that’s exactly what this article is about. They’re trying to do proper reforesting, but they’re finding they can only get a few species, mainly timber woods. Sounds about right.

  • Yes, but when your solution is to lock them up or have the cops come kick them out and move them along, you’re admitting you don’t actually care about solving the problem, only keeping it out of your sight.

Not to say that is what your solution is, but I live next to a high homeless population, but extremely affluent area, and the discussion on Facebook and Reddit would have you think that the only feasible solution is to build prisons and lock these people up forever, but they always preface it with that same needle complaint, as if that justifies dehumanization of people, and isn’t just an indictment on our systems.

This is a video he posted, and still has up to this day, as you can see, where he dressed as a dentist and talks about removing immigrants as if they were dental cavities.

Here’s how I see it: It’s a crime that he’s locked up, the Russian state is a criminal organization through and through, but calling for the extermination of immigrants is not something that normal people do.

Now to be fair, he hasn’t made any new comments in years, but neither does he respond to requests to take down the video of recant his statements contained within it. It’s a complex situation, but I don’t think he is a good person to rally behind as an alternative to Putin. Ultra-nationalism isn’t a good look on anyone.

  • Unaffiliated makes sense to be able to vote for whoever in a primary, but if you are party affiliated, why should you get to vote in a primary for the party you’re not affiliated with? You made a choice on who you support, and registered it with the state, unlike unaffiliated voters.

  • I miss having a journal that I would actually have to read in order to orient myself. I think that was my favorite feature of Morrowind, and it was a good middle point between actually having to keep a journal (Myst) and just having a quest marker like most modern games.

Skyrim also looked pretty janky compared to other contemporary games at the time though. All Bethesda games have mediocre graphics. They’re just not good at them for whatever reason, but I don’t mind when the worlds are good.
