There are also non-binary affirming sex surgeries as well. Even if you weren't born with both, it is still possible to have both. I think it's pretty neat how far gender affirming care has come! We're on our way to completely shedding the old conceptions of binary sex and gender despite reactionaries
Not entirely related but the bit about the Ukrainian farmer saying he's "Greek Orthodox" in response to questions of his nationality reminded me of something. I just started reading nationalism and culture by Rudolf Rocker. In the second chapter, rocker says that religion is the first form of institutionalized power that humans created and that institutional political power is not only structured similarly to religion, that it stems directly from it. Hence the proclivity of these two power structures to resemble, overlap, share ideas and compete with one another throughout human history. Not to say faith in itself is necessarily a form of power (he does say that, and I mostly agree with it) but the clergy around any given religion utilize that power to further their own ends, much like politicians.
I don't have a fully formed point or thought to any of this at the moment, and it's a very brief summary, but I figured some may find it interesting/thought provoking
I've heard liber and co is good, can't personally attest to it though. My go to is jack rudy's. FYI the recipe on the bottle says .75 syrup to 2oz gin. Do yourself a favor and bump that up to 1 oz. A good quality gin is going to dominate the flavor and mask the bitterness. I usually do 3 oz soda water( the only cocktail I measure the soda on lol) and a barspoon of lime juice. Let the ice handle the rest of the dilution
Do you make yours with a split base of rye and cognac or do you go for straight rye? Love me a good Sazerac! If you haven't had one yet, give the bijou or la louisiane a try too. Both are delicious new orleans style cocktails
I've responded to calls out of prison hospitals in Florida, the condition of these places, staff, and patients is truly horrific. The utter decay of the building paired with the complete contempt from the medical staff towards the unfortunate souls detained there is something I'll never forget. If you have chronic medical problems in prison you're better off dead. I wish I could say differently but that's the truth. They'll let you decay handcuffed to a stretcher with only the absolute bare minimum care before they decide to wash their hands of you for a week or two and send you to a real hospital. It's inhumane
Sober people don't accidentally back up too far when making a 3 point turn? Your foot has never slipped or pressed the wrong pedal? Youve never turned the wheel too far? Never shifted into the wrong gear? You're either a perfect specimen or completely full of shit
When I was ~14 years old I woke up one morning with a splitting headache. It was so bad that I didn't go to school that day. About two hours into my morning I got the sudden urge to blow my nose. What came out of my right nostril was an enormous booger roughly the size of my entire pinky, with small streaks of blood marking the outside. I'll never forget the feeling of expelling that monstrosity, it was pure bliss. I hope it happens to me again one day
The problem with corporate charities is they don't allocate the majority of the funds to their stated cause. More often than not that money is funneled into a myriad of other organizations controlled by the corporation/groups of corporations. Large non profits aren't very transparent and there are a lot of tricks they can use to divert funds away from their stated cause.
There's also the whole "paternalism" thing for lack of a better word. They use what's left of the money for flashy, headline grabbing things that may not be beneficial or even wanted by the people they're supposed to be helping. They tell those that need help how they need to be helped instead of asking them what they need. Clothes donations to various African countries come to mind. It looks good in articles when we ship all of our worn out novelty T-shirts to a bunch of poor people. But in the areas they go, it puts local manufacturers out of business, and oftentimes a lot of the clothes get thrown out. So sure, those people have "clothes" but their local economy is worse off. Had you asked the people of these counties how they would liked to be helped, they'd probably ask for investment in the local textile industry over getting a boatload of our leftovers.
I mean, the concept of corporate charities is sort of fucked to begin with. It's a PR front for terrible companies. Nestle does charity work in Africa. A continent that they literally killed babies in back in the 70s. In counties that they are currently stealing their water from, leaving many of the citizens in said country without clean or safe drinking water. But they threw $50 at a farmer somewhere on the continent so help is help right? It's just frustrating that they can get away with this shit
It's almost like building a world around human well-being is good for human well-being. This is a good study and it's nice information to have, but how many times do we need to empirically prove obvious facts about society to people who'll take no heed to the information?
I live in a large city but I wouldn't consider it "major" in the sense of places like LA, Miami, New York, Boston, etc despite having a larger population than some of them
He didn't diagnose him, he said his behavior is consistent with a diagnosis of dementia. Stating your informed opinion =/= diagnosing. His rapid decline is obviously some sort of degenerative cognitive illness (aka dementia). Anyone with relevant training/experience can see it at this point
