  • That specific BBC article is what I was talking about. It's not publicly available testimony, it's information gathering by the SK state about NK from defectors.

  • To all of those stories, they seem like strawmen. I've not heard anything that ridiculous. Just that NK is an authoritarian regime that rewards friends and family of the regime at the expense of the well being of the populace. Kinda like a red veneer over Saudi Arabia, similar system.

So why aren't you asking why the US is allowed to participate when they commit far worse atrocities?

I didn't even ask why NK isn't allowed to participate. Why are you giving me an argument I didn't make?

  • 1st link:

Defectors can expect to receive the six-figure payout if they cross the border with intelligence that helps enhance South Korea's security.

That... is actually very reasonable, and does not support or diminish your argument.

2nd link: I'm sorry, but DPRK news room doesn't exactly scream unbiased.

3rd link: The tone and channel name seems comedic at first glance, but I'll watch it and get back to you. Plenty of comedians doing real journalism these days anyway, so that shouldn't be a mark against him.

  • The people who manage to escape NK are a pretty good source. Also, 2 wrongs don't make a right. It's perfectly possible for both the US and NK to be in the wrong.

  • The absurd is a result of the confrontation between human need and the unending screams of the victims being run over infinitely.

  • Is there a proper small scale database solution?

Spreadsheets in the office suite of your choice

  • I'd upload an image but either voyager or my instance won't let me for some reason, so sorry if this doesn't embed right

Embedded just fine on my end (Jerboa)

  • Do not buy a sphinx if you're allergic to cats. People who are allergic are generally allergic to the oil (sebum). Sphinxs are awful for people who are allergic.

If not bathed regularly, they'll cover your furniture in that oil too.

  • Just look around this comment section, and other comment sections in !news@lemmy.world and !politicalmemes@lemmy.world

As I said, there's the occasional commenter that is trying to throw shit at the democratic party generally, but by and large the majority of comments are in favour of this, and if you click through to individual users it's not hard to find users that were hoping that Biden would drop out a week ago.

  • He will chicken out. He'll pull some excuse about unfair rules or a biased moderator that will be completely and utterly transparent to everyone except his base.

  • ANY of these accounts that were so relentless in their criticism of Biden and how he needed to step down because otherwise the Democrats would lose, being simply happy about this.

Really? I've seen plenty of posts like that. Stuff like "Donated to the democratic party to show this was necessary", "Finally, we can safely roast Trump for being old and senile", "I don't care who the replacement is, thank god he's out".

There are some shit-stirrers, but they seem to be the minority.

Disclaimer: I am not American, cannot vote or donate, am heavily invested in the election due to the ramifications on Ukraine.

  • Yes. Security through obscurity is an illusion. ClamAV is a well known and high performance open source AV solution.

Edit: Here is the CWE entry on the topic in case anybody wants to read some more details as to how and why obscurity is not a valid approach to security.

  • fossil fuel extraction mitigates climate change.

To be fair, that's not what they said. They said reducing emissions is compatible with maintaining fossil fuel extraction, which is technically true. It's just really disengenuous.

Reducing fossil fuel usage while maintaining production means you're selling more, which means you're moving carbon emissions to another country's balance sheet.

  • Wouldn't surgery like that completely destroy your ability to detect direction of sound?

  • They pushed a driver update. That update is broken and causes the bootup sequence to fail.

  • Tourists in Bulgaria, for example, always get caught out by this. They shake their head for yes and nod for no.

  • Exactly what I wanted to say. All that talk of "perfection" makes me imagine them snapping and going full psycho because a train was cancelled and they need to book a different one.

To OP: just stop trying to plan that much. A general plan is good. Just be aware things will change and that's ok. As long as you two are having a good time, the rest really doesn't matter as much as you think it does.

If you want a little psychological trick to make the trip more memorable than it otherwise would be, whatever you think is going to be the most impressive, save it for last. Our memories have a very strong recency bias.

  • Me as a Romanian: heh. Yup, no post WW2 puppet government extracted our resources, no sirree bob. Totally benevolent soviet occupational forces who bestowed flowers, kisses and rainbows upon the populace.

  • It also tends to be people farthest away from what's going on. The most anti-Russian countries tend to be those geographically closest to Russia. Those on the border with them know what's at stake and why having military backing against Russian aggression is so important.
