  • Why are you pretending this is being done by everybody in KO? It's a very small minority and they can be dealt with by the law.

BTW. I like that you want to kick people out of their houses for harassing their neighbours. Oh wait a minute. You are only calling for that when they are in public housing. If they are in private housing you don't give a flying fuck that they are harassing their neighbours.

Why don't we take your hyper violent recommendation and apply it uniformly? If anybody harasses any neighbour they are left homeless. If they are renting they get evicted, if they own their own house they are kicked out and their houses are confiscated.

Would you be OK with that?

  • It's great that you were able to achieve your life's goals. I don't know where the attitude to pull up the ladder behind you comes in though.

The way I see it housing is one of those survival needs and the state should be providing it for everybody who can't afford it. Hell I would be in favor of converting jails to housing. It won't be nice but it's better than living in the streets or in a car.

  • What if the mistake didn’t kill anyone?

Depends on the mistake like I said. I know people who were fired for messing up an important contract. I know people who were fired for deleting a database in production. One time somebody I know got fired because he posted something embarrassing about the CEO of the company.

As an employee your employer can fire you for lots of reasons.

  • Depends on the mistake. If worked for a company for 50 years and your mistake killed a person you'd most definitely be fired. If you cost the company a significant client or a significant amount of money you'd most definitely be fired.

A corporation mistake could kill a thousand people or ten thousand people so they should be held to an even higher standard.

  • If a company spends millions and still doesn't get it right then the punishment should encourage the remaining businesses to spend even more and actually get it right. Clearly those millions weren't enough.

Unfortunately under capitalism we aren't allowed to hold people personally responsible for harming others via corporations. The only thing we can do is to hold the shareholders responsible. In other nations it's not uncommon for the CEO or even the board to be arrested and jailed for harming the public.

  • if you destroy or weaken the unions the rest just fall in place.

But you forget one important thing. The people who vote for this. People who support this. The people who want this to happen so bad they show up at the polls and vote for parties which make it happen.

None of it could happen without popular support of the willing and the apathy of the rest.

  • Why would people in other countries buy our beer? It's nothing special and certainly far inferior to beers from Europe, Americas, and Japan. I don't have experience with Chinese beers but I bet they also make better beers than us.

For me Asahi Super Dry rules supreme.

  • The problem is that nobody trusts the equity market or businesses in NZ enough to invest in them. High profile fraud and collapses of marque NZ companies has spooked the population into investing in real estate which is a sure thing.

  • guns are pretty hard to get here. You need a license to buy any rifle and there are limits on the types of rifles you an buy. The license isn't hard to get, you go to a class, read a booklet, take a written test and if you pass you get a license. A pistol is much much harder. You need to join a club and participate regularly for at least six months and take numerous shooting and written tests. Your club has to vouch for you before you can get a license. There is also a thorough background check including interviews with with your neighbors and such. It takes roughly a year to get a license and buy a pistol.

In either case you need to buy a appropriate safe for your gun, this has to be installed in your house and has to be inspected by the police.

Your license also expires and need to be renewed. In the case of a pistol it can be revoked unless you visit your gun club at least once a month and sign in.

You can buy pellet guns without a license, you can also buy bow and arrows or crossbows without a license.

Ask me if you have more questions.
