  • There is an old saying "if you want to paint the perfect picture, make yourself perfect and paint naturally".

We aren't going to achieve any of your goals until and unless we decide to become a cohesive society with common goals. Unfortunately that's never going to happen. Right wing forces deployed all over the world are also here fanning the flames of racism, sexism, and bigotry while amplifying every wedge issue then can find so that they can dismantle the state and privatise everything they can into the hands of the oligarchs.

The only way to fight this is by education and solidarity and unions.

That's just a pipe dream though. New Zealand can't even agree that our tax dollars should be spent on feeding our kids in schools and making us healthy when we are sick and injured and helping us out when we lose our jobs.

  • Underfunding plus corruption in procurement plus poor training results in this kind of thing.

Unfortunately the current government has promised to cut funding even more, be even more corrupt and spend even less on training.

  • Why isn't this country more upset at what this government is doing?

I am baffled that we as a nation will just stand by and watch the Trumpification of New Zealand.

I have always been convinced that NZ is a much more conservative country than the image it tries to project, a much more racist and corrupt country than it pretends to be and nothing has brought that into sharper focus than the rule of Winston Peter and David Seymour.

  • Too late for that. NZ First, ACT and National are hiring these people to advise them. Why do you think this dude is here? Why is he on television sitting across an compliant Jack Tame who isn't challenging him?

  • The problem is that NZ is too conservative of a nation to think outside the box of extractive industries and tourism. For a little while there people were trying to build a tech industry but that seems to have fizzled out.

We desperately need stop thinking about packing plant and animal matter into shipping containers and trying to sell them overseas. Bits are much easier and cheaper to ship. We need to shift our economy to one based on intellectual property ASAP or we are going to continue to suffer from deprivation.

  • You could easily be describing most farm dogs. I think dogs having a small run and a kennel, where they spend most of there time, and getting to go for regular runs is just fine.

I don't. I would never treat my dog this way. Dogs are pack animals, they don't like being alone. Dogs need to pee and poop and won't do it in the kennel so they have to hold it for hours before they are let out. Dogs need mental stimulation and if left alone in a cage long enough will start gnawing on the wire and ruin their teeth.

I would never leave my dog alone more than a couple of hours and even then I leave him inside the house where he can roam around and play with his toys if he wants.

BTW I also think it's disgusting how pigs are treated especially the ones kept in farrowing crates. Pigs are intelligent creatures why not let them have a decent life before you kill them in their youth.

  • I have seen farm dogs that didn't have large area to roam. As I said they spend any time not working in a kennel with a meter of run maybe two if they are lucky. I have also seen pets in similar conditions where the owners go to work and are gone all day while the dog is in the kennel.

    Sad.

  • Waikato is mostly just paddocks. We could easily populate it if we wanted to. Hamilton could be as big as melbourne if we managed water properly.

But we don't know how to do infrastructure in this country.

  • The few examples of working dogs I have seen in NZ live in pretty shit conditions if you ask me. They are often kept in kennels the entire time they are not working with a tiny little run. That's now how dogs are meant to live and I feel so bad for them.
