  • The problem is they ask for money up front to supposedly buy supplies for the job. I have learned that you should just go ahead and buy the supplies yourself even though it's going to cost more for you to do it than them. This way when they fuck off and don't show up at least you still have the supplies.

  • Since posting this I have talked to a couple of more people and they had very similar stories. One guy talked about how the tradie took half up front and didn't show up. He took him to small claims court and the tradie said he was having mental health problems and the judge ruled in favor of the tradie. He had to appeal to get a judgement for his money back. He did win that case but the tradie never paid.

The second guy told me he too took the tradie to court but the tradie had sheltered all his assets under a trust and his wife so he just claimed poverty and the judge bought it.

  • I think people online have a shockingly inaccurate assessment of the average kiwi. Kiwis are by and large much more conservative than people think. More conservative, more racist, more ignorant, more stupid, and more cruel than you or the rest of the world thinks.

  • Housing is expensive, opportunities are disappearing, healthcare and education are being hollowed out.

This country is doomed but we have nobody to blame but ourselves. We voted for these bozos.

At least the trans people will not be allowed to poop in the bathroom they are presenting as so I guess that's something. We are going to show those trans people who is who and where they belong.

  • It's just technology. It's just a kind of a database. There is no reason the government can't create it's own currency and run it's own transaction servers. It's all open source so it could literally be done in a week if we really want to.

  • Hey I have an idea. Why don't we invite some competition to the marketplace. Maybe Alipay or Wechat. Even better why don't we start using premined crypto coins. Even better why doesn't the government mint it's own premined crypto and set up some servers to handle the transactions.

The mere threat of any of the above should get Visa to back off.

  • The only independent news outlets I know are youtube channels and podcasts. They don't rely on corporate or government money.

They are not unbiased of course and neither are they "professional" (whatever that means).

NZ is too small to foster a robust independent press so we are stuck with foreign owned corporate media or public radio. So far RNZ has managed to remain independent but looks like this government is going to end that.

  • Robot development isn't going to end today. Last year this race couldn't be run at all, next year I bet one will run autonomously. Ten years from now they will be running obstacle courses.

Also why did they make one of them a dwarf 😂

It's probably a flex. Look how small we can make our motors and circuits. Also I am sure there are tons of industrial uses for short robots such as working underneath cars and such.

  • Prefab housing has been a thing for a very long time all across the world. There are massive economies of scale and automation when you build panels in a factory and just assemble them on location.

I don't know why they never caught on NZ but I suspect it's a combination of regulations and lack of will from the public.

Having said that even 335,000 seems like an insane amount of money for the house alone. Given you can't buy land for under 500K in most places that still puts the total value at about a million dollars or above.

  • It doesn't matter. Law doesn't matter. Ethics don't matter. Morals don't matter.

What matters is that the billboards are up, the media covered it, it spread on social media and half the country now believes the greens will abolish the police if they are in government.

It's hilarious watching people pretend these people care about anything other than hurting the greens and labour. They will break any law and cross any line to do it.
