I think you're onto something. U.S citizen here and I actually love driving stick but where I live it's a few hour drive to anywhere which makes driving a manual seem like more of a hassle, whereas those long trips in an automatic feel leisurely and I'm more well rested when I arrive.
Couple that with manuals more commonly found in larger trucks around here. I work on vehicles, see many and can't remember the last small car or truck that was manual. It's all semi's, dump trucks, dualies, you know? Big trucks which adds another barrier to people.
I feel like if there were smaller manuals in my area then perception would change. As it is they're reserved for work, big work at that.
It's sad to lose manuals in society but I'm seeing them less and less, everything seems to be going electric now, even companies known for diesel manuals.
It used to work at Apple tech support like a decade ago. I know bc I worked IT and our little program gave us a heads up about A: how long people had waited in cue and B: if they had cussed a.k.a were angry. When angry customers got to me there'd be a little angry emoji on the screen lol and those customers still tended to be cussing when I picked up. Anyway, I was always told that was how you skip cue and confirmed bc on days where the average wait time for a cx was say 20 minutes I'd get angry cussers that had only been in line for a few minutes. On the flip side I can confirm this doesn't skip cue for Verizon (noticeably) as I've cussed that robot 10 times to no avail. Dmv doesn't care either, but Apple once did.
Tbh it did affect me, I had just joined and it was out often, & it seemed like a hassle (being new) to find and join new instances or w/e especially when I had to create a new account for every one. Didn't necessarily think it was trash just buggy and unreliable especially for that to be happening during such a big migration (after Reddit changed the api's)
Idk it's nice here but that did reduce my usage. Something that I'm new on being down for a day or two means I'm less likely to use it the next day and incorporate it into my daily routine
What a coincidence I discovered the site around 2011 and it was the API changes that did it for me too. They'd already made the site terrible and the only thing that helped make it tolerable was Boost (for me) with that out the window and them basically extorting the devs I just couldn't in good conscience keep using it.
I'm one. First found Reddit around 2011 iirc and yeah, the changes of the past 5-7 years took much of what brought me there in the first place away. The most recent API changes, killing the app that made me a daily user in the first place were just the cherry on top and what really crosses the line for me. Censor it all you want, hated that but what site isn't censored to the brim nowadays? But take away my favorite apps and basically extort the developer? Nah.
Do love Firefox though, but opera is stiff competition right now and has features I can't find on Firefox.
Stuff like the built in VPN, I don't pay for one currently and Opera's free built in one really helps.
Also it's very friendly with syncing between devices.
Opera GX is actually badass too, it's super fast and there are so many cool mods that allow me to add background music, key press noises, themes from my favorite shows etc. Reminds me of the old days of windows themes and I'd missed it the sound effects and key presses are actually very satisfying.
But they're horrible with privacy which is sad bc I thought they used to be good.
Sad that Firefox can't do just some of that bc with just a few additions it would easily be the best browser imo.
Exactly. Of all those I graduated with, the ones that became cops were all either meatheads or were bullied by the meatheads. The hall monitor type would also for sure make sense
Yeah people on the AC forums weren't feeling it which made me feel left out but I loved Valhalla! Put many, many hours into it and still haven't finished the story.
It's very deep and fleshed out but also intuitive and easy to pick up and play, loved it. If I hadn't lost my save I'd be right back playing bc I really want to finish the story but thinking of how many days I spent just to get as far as I did, and doing ALL of that over again is very overwhelming.
Wish I could find a saves for PC for every mission so I could just go back where I left off.
Not only is it a shit fest but I've noticed that now they've taken one out of Twitter and Facebook's playbook and on mobile all search result content just directs me to download the app which is really irritating. I refuse to even download that shitty app.
Fortunately on mobile I was able to open desktop version to read an old article I needed but on computer iirc I couldn't get it to display anything even though I was already on the desktop version.
Every change they're making is pissing off the user base, spez must be wanting to clean it up and sell to advertisers ir something
Exactly, I liked getting free premium sometimes. One of the very few, possibly only things I'd see in my inbox and feel happy about.
Oh, an award? On what comment? That one! Who gave it to me? Let's thank them! Oh, free premium for a month? Awesome!
Funny they'd do away with them bc those were almost the only things in the inbox that brought joy. All of the rest was:
1: you have been permanently banned from participating in r/Everything-Ever because you made an innocuous comment on a sub that differs from our ideology. You can appeal this but we'll probably just ignore your Nazi ass.
2: Reply from u/NothingBetterToComplainAbout: "Um, okay, so you said that you "Spazzed out". Glad you've outed yourself as an ableist prick that hates people with epilepsy!"
3: Reply from u/Sensitive: "What a fatphobic fuck you are. Completely ignoring that the majority of obese people are that way due to genetic factors? It has NOTHING to do with diet or exercise and they were born this way!"
4: Reply from u/beatingAdeadHorse on AITA: Bruh, she had NO obligation to call an ambulance when her mother was having a heart attack. I don't care if she did beg for help, that doesn't magically bestow responsibility! (Clap) NO (CLAP) ONE (CLAP) HAS (CLAP) ANY OBLIGATION (CLAP!) TO HELP (CLAP!) ANYONE ELSE!! (CLAP!)
5: Reply from u/Political in r/politics: Apolitical? Ha, cought you undercover Nazi. No one is apolitical.
6: Message from r/MoreSubs: You have been permanently banned for saying the following: "Can straight men really be lesbians? That makes no sense?" - Note from moderation team: Delete yourself, anyone can be anything they say they are and you must allow your reality to be shaped by their imagination. It's not enough to call them by their preferred pronouns, you must accept it and believe it deep down in your heart, you vile piece of elephant shit we'll know if you're lying.
7: AWARD ENCLOSED: Someone has liked your comment so much that they've given it the "BEST COMMENT THROUGHOUT ETERNITY!" Award. This comment was handpicked by Jesus Christ himself as his favorite, which means, YOU are his favorite! Yes, this is literal confirmation that Jesus Loves you and you have been pre-accepted into heaven for an eternity of bliss! ALSO: You get one free month of Reddit premium, AD FREE! AND 750 coins of which you can use to pass on the blessings!
Message from award-giver: This is Jesus Christ, I love you my son. I have seen the woes in your inbox and admire your good works in spreading the message of God around Reddit. I can't wait to see you in heaven, my son, until then I will always be watching but don't worry, I've already accepted you into heaven so you won't fail and go to hell no matter what!
