  • And, sadly, the people of Aurora will be on the hook for the increased insurance premiums.

  • It's not even worth responding to your non-arguments. Even your vaccine analogy is garbage because vaccines are like arming your immune system to defend against viruses.

And GTFO with your bootstrapper rhetoric.

  • I mean, two whole generations are growing up without using regular computers until they enter the workforce or go to college. When I was in highschool, I was told that the generations after me would mostly be more technologically literate than anyone was at the time, but with smartphones and ChromeOS it seems that the time to learn how to use a personal computer now begins far later than it was for us millennials.

There are so many basic things about using a computer that it is no longer to expect a high school graduate to know, such as how to use a printer (or what a printer even is), how to reboot a computer, what a browser is, etc.

  • What I'm hearing from you is that men are a desirable sacrifice on the altar of equality.

You're risking serious social stability problems by justifying the ignoring of men's issues. There can be no equality as long as the problems of one sex are more important than the problems of the other.

  • The first time, it was an interesting discussion. Now, it's just spam.

  • So yeah you are free to view me as domesticated or whatever foul word for weakness you have ready to go, but to me you are same except one of us is aware of what life is actually like.

Oh yes, I have a very descriptive epithet for you: Future victim

I don't have the privilege of living somewhere with a sub-minute police response, and even if I did, the police have no obligation to protect me. When seconds count, a bullet is faster than dialing 911.

  • Absolutely right. And it blows my mind that at this point people are getting less technologically literate, not more. Job security for us IT guys, I guess.

  • You've lived a sheltered and privileged life if you think there is no useful purpose in a tool which has the primary purpose of making living things dead.

  • People making OS their religion and following one of the Penguin Creeds:

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, installing Linux in the name of Torvalds, Stallman, and the Holy Kernel: Teaching them to use only FOSS software. Amen.

  • What’s rm -rf /?

Just` test it in a terminal, it’s fun.

    💀

  • shared XKCD about experts overestimating laypeople's knowledge of their field

Double clicking it opens a weird folder.
I just put the ISO on my external drive and now my backup is gone what happened?

Proceeds to assume laypeople have backups

  • For the most part, it's holding steady around 30%. I've read that certain demographics are seeing spikes in gun ownership lately, including women and Blacks.

  • The vast majority of gun rights supporters do not condone this kind of behavior. The loud minority you speak of mostly only exist in dark corners of the Internet, and you're unlikely to ever come across one in person in your lifetime. On the other hand, you probably interact with multiple responsible gun owners who are carrying a concealed firearm every day and don't know it.

  • I would. Some things are really enjoyable to do, and can earn you money. Whether or not the things you enjoy doing pay enough to cover rent is another problem entirely.

  • The real problem with that Guardian piece is the insistence on perpetuating a superficial identity marker well past its expiration date. Why do we keep breathing life into the dead horse that is racism? Let it die along with the aging population of people who grew up when it was still cool to think that race exists.

  • State Guards and National Guards usually train and deploy together for in-state activities. Only the National Guard can be federalized, though.

  • Guy was roleplaying as a 4chan user.

  • Yes, even some of the founding fathers. For example, George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, John Adams, Samuel Adams, and other Framers of the Constitution were abolitionists.
