  • Also from the post:

so I could maybe badger the property manager or landlord to sort it out themselves. But they're older and obviously don't really have any reason to care about the internet speeds I can receive.

And per the screenshot, they couldn't even do anything about it because the form is for strata managers only

  • I don't really like the vibe of Latrobe (admittedly as an outsider that's never been in one). Their campuses just seem unnecessarily large. Not necessarily by student numbers, just size. And half of it is empty space

  • First day back in my course tonight. I have like 10 mins til I need to begin the process of getting on (involves multiple sign ons and OTPs, eugh). Haven't used my laptop since before I moved, so windows has decided that I HAVE to do updates. Started 5 minutes ago, and we're only 4%.

    FFS windows.

"Oh no, fuck! But it's stuck at 99%! How the heck am I gonna pay the rent?? Gonna be homeless because I forgot to update windows"

Edit: had to join on my phone so I wouldn't be late (pain in the arse. Everything bloody logs me out even day🙄). Windows finished updating about 20 mins later and I'm not on the laptop again

  • I used to go to a specialist high school a 15 min drive away from where I was living. About an hour and 15 by PT, but I usually preferred to take a simpler way with less running (required to make those connections), which bumped it up to about an hour and a half to an hour 45 depending on how fucked the trains were that particular morning.

I think that personally an hour and a half on a train is okay, 2h max, but if it's peak hour and a packed train, that drastically goes down and reduces to about half an hour. By car, I'd be okay with an hour as a passenger, but 30 minutes would probably be my preferred limit as a driver. But I'm still a learner, so by the time I was a full license holder, I would probably be okay with an hour as a driver as well

I guess it also depends on a few other things, though. How'd you find the uni commute? Did you find it draining? I ask because some people find travelling alone to be draining, and if you're going to waste half your energy on trying not to road rage in a traffic jam, do you really want that to immediately precede your work? Or are you the sort of person that finds that kind of useful - like a chance to listen to a bit of pump up music and invigorate some energy into yourself before getting on the grind for the rest of the day?

Another thing to think of: what's your start time, and how much time do you need each morning? Personally, I need at least an hour in the morning before I can tolerate human interaction, and about 20 before I've officially woken up from sleep. So if I had an 8am start time and 45 minute commute, I'd round that up to an hour for a bit of margin, and then I'd be waking up between 6-6:30 each day. But I also know people who'll get up as soon as their alarm goes off, take a quick 5 minute dunny run, 2 minute shower, then they're out the door less than 10 minutes after waking up

  • The staff at the place I was at a few moves ago had a fingerprint sensor to clock on. It was about a decade old, and by the time I moved out, was really really struggling to scan anybody's fingerprints. Lucky for them, it didn't do auto lockouts, but the bright sparks also had the bright idea to remove the option to clock on with a number after a couple of years of being fingerprint only. Which was fine until it cracked the shits

Also, don't want to think about how many filthy fingers went in there 🤢

  • Technically it's not that much of an issue because it's kind of double layered. As in - there's one at the top/roof level, then a big space, then a second one at indoor ceiling height. The space is surrounded by plaster, etc

The gap is just in the 2nd indoor/ceiling height one. I'm not 100% sure how the flies are getting in, but there must be a hole or something in that space that's letting them in from wherever they're spawning from in the roof

  • Sleeping, probably

They did send that dude who tried to find it but couldn't. But the slight gap in the skylight was deemed a non issue, and pest control in places I can get to is my responsibility 🤷‍♂️

  • The flies recently have been absolutely insane. Since that coincides with the end of TheStench™️, I'm going to assume that either they ate TheStench, or they flies I killed laid their eggs in TheStench, and now they've run out of food

There's a gap in the skylight in the laundry that I can't put back myself because when I tried the entire thing fell out and it was a bitch and a half to put back in. The flies have been escaping from there. I went in and absolutely doused it with fly spray last night, and there are at least a hundred dead flies everywhere now. There's a few dozen on the floor that escaped the gap, and I counted about 90 in the skylight. Ugh

On the double downside, all the flys have brought a number of spider out of hiding. There's at least 2 living in my fruit bowl, and I've seen a bunch of others around. Thankfully not gigantic ones, but I'm still scared of spiders so it isn't exactly ideal

Next weekend I reckon I'm doing bug bombs. This house was empty for a fair while before I moved in, so it'll probably do good. Gonna buy a cobweb thingy too

  • I've never heard of them, but it looks like they've got reasonably priced power banks. I am actually in the market for a larger capacity one myself, so depending on how long the sale lasts, I might try their 30,000mah one

I know the rec wasn't aimed at me, but thanks for the recco anyway! I'm going to steal it

  • They're very useful! I've got a few because of all my travels

A 10,000mah power bank should be sufficient to charge most phones 1.5-2.5 times. 10,000mah powerbanks are fairly cheap at Officeworks. The cheapest models are about $35, though I'd personally go up to the ~$50 ones and get a Belkin or Cygnet branded one, just because I have more experiences with those brands than the black and gold-esque Otto branded ones

20,000mah powerbanks are also quite widely available, and go for about $70 bucks and should be good for a days usage at least (assuming you're chronically online and had a power guzzling phone), or even up to a week if you rationed your usage and keep it off while not in use. They are bulkier though, so it's worth weighing up whether you think there'd be a situation you need that much power in, and if the weight and size is worth it
