  • I gave it a google and edited dmy comment. Technically it isn't illegal, they just say to avoid it. the restrictions do essentially say he must carry a fire extinguisher with over 9L capacity, but I doubt he would. Bloody tosser ngl

I know it's not as bad in the city, but I just can't shake my countryside instincts. If this was my neighbour where I used to live, he'd have gotten a firm backhander across the face by now, because he'd be risking burning the entire bloody town down

  • Isn't lawn mowing a restricted activity on total fire ban days? Could've sworn there was something about that

E: gave it a google, and it says it should be avoided, but obviously, "should" doesn't indicate an obligation. However it does say have some musts for dry/not green vegetation, and also says that somebody MUST carry either a water (stores pressure) fire extinguisher that's fully charged, correctly pressured, working, and has a capacity of over 9 litres, or a knapsack spray pump fully charged with water in working order with a capacity of over 9 litres

Does Mr. Neighbour have a fire extinguisher?

  • Holy shit, I had the air con on for a few hours yesterday and used 10kwh more electricity than usual

$5 just to keep the inside temp below 30 😐

Maybe that's perfectly average and expected, but that's the most electricity I've ever used in a day (at least while I've been paying the bill). Do split systems use that much?

It's already 31 inside, I don't really feel like I've got much other option but to turn it back on, but the moment it's bearable it goes straight back off :/

  • They're good little mates. I absolutely adored watching them walk around the yard hunting worms. I know they aren't the only birds that land in yards and waddle around, but in terms of flying birds in my part of Melbourne, they seem to be the only ones that routinely spent time in my front/back yard. They weren't shy either. They didn't like people getting too close, but they wouldn't fly away upon seeing you, they'd just hop back a few steps, kinda like "ayy man, keep yo distance"

Yet another reason I love them. Can't help anthropomorphising them - I do that too!

  • Emoji has been changed because it's bird day!

My bird appreciation of the day is that dove that I thought was an owl (sorry bird peeps, I can't remember the sub-species or whatever the breed categorisation is called). It's been tricking me for YEARS into thinking it was some kind of broken owl. Cheeky bloody bugger

My favourite bird award goes to the magpie. Whatever sub-species we have in melbs. They can be aggressive, but they also have the capability of learning who is a friendly and doesn't need a swoop. They're remarkably smart for birds imo, and also fairly friendly once there's a bit of a rapport. Love ya maggies!

(Yeah, I know bird day mostly seems to be cantered towards the yanks. But we have some very fine birds, too, and they deserve a bit of love as well!)

  • I went to see a late night movie with the old LT a few months ago, too, and hard agree. We did a bit of a cheeky and went somewhere it was implied (but in our defense never stated!) we weren't meant to go. Lights dimmed, escalators off, etc. super odd feeling. Pretty sure I took a video cause it was just so unusual feeling

The supermarket was almost empty today, and they were playing the butter sweet symphony. That's an interesting feeling listening to in an empty supermarket as well haha. Reminded me of that hey there Delilah in an empty shopping centre video from the states that went viral some time ago. Slightly sad but also somewhat nostalgic song in an empty place that's usually busy created an interesting atmosphere

  • I had a sneaky late night choc cross buns. Bleh. The ones I get from Aldi have something chocolatey inside. The woolies ones I got don't, they just put cocoa powder into whatever mixture they used and got rid of the fruit

  • Shops done. Missed Kmart though, so an excuse to go window shop tomorrow ig

Fuck shopping centres that half shit down at night time for no good reason. I went in the main entrance, as one does. That was open, but half way down was closed. Had to do a 10 minute detour around to the other side of the building to get to the supermarket entrance

I realise they probably try and justify it by arguing about all the closed shops, but it's really just ridiculous. It's such a car centric way of thinking

This happened at highpoint too where they closed the entrance from the bus bays and I had to walk about 20 mins iirc to get to the other side, and part of it didn't even have a footpath or the footpath just ended. It's ridiculous.

  • Ah yep, used to have one of those. First smart light I ever owned. I moved to brilliant bulbs when I moved to the last place cause the genio died. Think I got it for like 5 bucks on clearance from Officeworks. I still have it in my lamp, and in the 2 big lights in my house that still have normal fittings, I put in Tapo bulbs. Including the one in the shitter! Imagine telling someone from the 20th century you can change the colour of the lightbulb in the dunny!

  • That's incredibly kind of you to try and help it. Even if it may not have worked, I'm sure it still noticed that you didn't immediately kill it as a predator would've
