  • I didn't see in the article how much advanced time the warning would give. 10 mins vs 1 week would be a major factor in how people respond. As someone that's mostly lived in Florida, I have experience with hurricanes. Usually, most people are somewhat minimally always prepared for a hurricane by having batteries, candles, flashlights, etc., but no one really gets the perishables until 2 days before when the forecast is more certain where the hurricane will hit. Depending on the strength, some people will evacuate too. However, I'm interested in learning how people would prepare for an earthquake đŸ«š

Maybe teach people how to respond to the warning beforehand. This should have a plan on how government will organize the preparation, should their be an evacuation or whatever else.

  • We want true panic. No one is going to lose their shit for nothing. We want there to be a very good reason for irrational overreactive self-preserving behaviors that are ultimately damaging. lol jk 😜

  • If you're Cuban, you say, "Wait, don't leave yet. I'm about to make coffee." It means you're telling them to leave after the coffee.

  • Yes, and I appreciate your greater conscience. However, just knowing you functioning with that in mind, I believe you will not be a problem. You will generally behave in a manner that is helpful to humanity. You might make mistakes, but definitely learn from them too.

Also, in my opinion, Lemmy tends to have a rigid all-or-none take on certain matters, such as landlords all being bad. I think that in reality, some people don't want to own homes. They want to rent. So landlords are not only inevitable, but necessary. The relationship becomes exploitative when the situation starts favoring the landlord too much to the point that the tenant is exploited, such as landlords own wayyy too many properties or properties on sale in the market are too expensive forcing people to rent.

However, if you were a landlord in an equitable housing market and I needed a residence to rent for a while, I'm guessing it would he a mutually beneficial relationship.

  • I think it's only the 2nd:

Scientists have long feared TR4’s introduction into the Americas. Still, Stuart Thompson explains for the Conversation, the infectious outbreak is not wholly unprecedented: During the mid-20th century, a related strain of Fusarium wilt destroyed plantations across Latin America, paving the way for a shift from the predominant “Gros Michel” banana variety to the “Cavendish” version commonly seen today.

Also, Fusarium is known as Panama Disease.

  • You're taking some considerable risk with that because sometimes the illness is not caused by colonization of bacteria in the body, but by consuming substances that the bacteria leave behind as part of their metabolism. These toxins can be resistant to the temperatures we achieve when cooking meat, especially since boiling isn't going to go beyond 100°C. If anything, you might be diluting the toxins a little, but they're still in the soup. Here's a thorough article on bacteria and their toxins in meat: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7152306/

I think it would be a good idea to postpone risky meat and preparation until you speak with a legit expert on the matter.

  • I think that AI is gonna really propel artists to making some awesome weird stuff. AI will be only be able to produce art that already exists or realism. Artists are still going to be the only ones creating new styles, which is going to make their original creations much more appreciable.

  • So much freedom in that tho. As long as it is legal, you can do whatever the fuck you want, and no one would give a shit. Keep me updated on your wacky adventures!

  • Unless you're part of a greater organized movement that has the ability to make effective changes, not investing is just screwing yourself over so someone else can make the money. Invest. Buy a home. Save up for retirement. Have nice things. Go on vacations. It's okay to not be the poorest person on Earth. You are not the problem.

  • you don't see that there's a thing across the place. you sense that the light that came from it hit your eye. you sense literally only things you interact with directly.

  • That way, the pilots can get to the ground first and cushion the impact of the helo 👌

  • What are you rating them on? How do you know you've found one you like?

  • Yeah, that's my point. What does it matter that they got better because they think they should get better? To me, what matters is that they got better, regardless of the reason. Bonus: they got high on ecstasy while under medical supervision.

Option A: Take a pill that doesn't feel like ecstasy and no one gets better.

Option B: Don't tell patients that ecstasy makes them feel better. Give them ecstacy. 20% of patients get better.

Option C: Tell patients that ecstasy can make them feel better. Give them ecstacy. 40% of patients get better.

Personally, option C seems like the most effective and thus preferred option. I don't see any downside whatsoever.

  • around 90% of the participants in Lykos’s trials guessed correctly whether they had received the drug or a placebo

I understand the logic with using a placebo comparison, but who cares if people got better solely because they know they took ecstasy?
